The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform highly skilled level electrical work involving installation, inspection, maintenance, alteration and repairs of electronic equipment, controls, devices and components in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade. This position is distinguished from the Electrician classification due to more responsibility and involvement in the more complex and technical work situations, the independence with which duties are performed, project responsibility, the flexibility to be able to assist in other areas of the City of Kingman and decision-making authority within scope of project. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of a crewleader, construction maintenance supervisor or superintendent. Work is reviewed by meeting of department/division standards, results obtained and for conformance with technical standards. SUPERVISION EXERCISED May provide instruction, daily work assignments within scope of project, and review work completed of others assigned to assist with projects, and provides technical resource advice to other employees on an assignment basis. May supervise temporary employees, community service workers, and DOC Inmate workers as directed, or as assigned by Superintendent. If so, Seattle Public Utilities is looking for a Senior Pump Station Electrical Technician to perform lead level duties by assisting in the planning and scheduling of work for Pump Stations and other SPU electrical projects in the Utility Operations & Maintenance Division. The Senior will provide collaborative leadership, mentoring, problem-solving and role modeling for the other members of the team. This position performs Journey-level Electrical work at all Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) facilities, including but not limited to water and wastewater pumping stations, cathodic protection sites, primary and backup diesel and water-powered generation locations, water treatment facilities, and above ground and underground vaults. The successful candidate will report to the Electrical Crew Chief within the Shared Services Branch. Leads and participates in the preventive maintenance, repair, installation and calibration of electrical and electronic systems and equipment, including fabrication of solid-state controls. Inspects new or renovated sewage pump stations for quality of electrical work and conformance with electrical code. Performs the more difficult installations and troubleshoots problems. Services and repairs electrical pump station equipment including motors, starters, controls, recorders and related devices in routine and emergency situations. Installs wires control and telemetry alarm systems; runs conduits as necessary. Programs and updates logic for telemetry programmable controller. Fabricates and installs probes, solid state controls, special circuits and wiring modifications as required; runs conduit necessary for installation. Completes related paperwork including maintenance schedules and logs and updating wiring diagrams and schematics. Tests and maintains emergency generators as required. Reviews plans and specifications for electrical installations; installs and wires special controls and equipment at new or renovated pump stations. Assists in coordinating electrical wiring at new or renovated stations with private contractors; serves as resource for information regarding sanitary and storm sewers. Purchases materials for emergency situations. Performs other related duties or a comparable level/type as assigned. Qualifications Experience: C ompletion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship program and four (4) years journey-level electronic experience, including experience with remote control and telemetry circuits. Experience and Education Equivalency: Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements. License, Certification and Other Requirements: Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility. Special Conditions: Required to be on call 24 hours/day to respond to emergency situations. This position requires employees be in-office five (5) days a week or a four-day (10) hour work schedule. Required to lift heavy objects in excess of 50 lbs. Requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances and working around potential electrical hazards. Requires working around unsanitary live sewage, and foul sewage gases. Required to work outdoors in all types of weather, around heavy traffic, large and loud construction machinery, and in pump stations located underground. You will be most successful in this role if you possess one or more of the following: Experience with working with 4160 voltages. Proven ability to work independently and in a team. Competent computer skills including Microsoft Suite and Google search engine. Strict adherence to safety protocols, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
