Requirements SELECTION REQUIREMENTS Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of water service facilities, one year of which must have been at the level of Los Angeles County's Class of Water Service Worker*. Experience in plumbing, steam fitting, or industrial pipe fitting work may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience. LICENSE A valid California Class C Driver license is required to perform job-related essential functions. A valid California Class A Driver License may be required for appointment to some positions in this class. A valid Water Treatment Operator Grade T1 Certificate and a valid Water System Distribution Operator Grade D3 Certificate issued by the California Department of Health Services may be required for appointment to this position. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Water Resources Mechanic II performs a broad range of tasks requiring advanced journey-level mechanical aptitude and skill. The Water Resources Mechanic II may be assigned overall responsibility for whole systems or classes of equipment. Independent judgment is required in assessing overall mechanical condition and choosing between alternative solutions to chronic or acute mechanical problems. This classification is distinguished from the Water Resources Mechanic I by the broader range of responsibility, more technical problem solving, higher level of skill required, and responsibility for leading a crew. This classification is further distinguished from the Water Resources Coordinator as the latter assumes administrative and supervisory responsibilities over the maintenance and instrumentation functions at the Water Reclamation Plant . SUPERVISION RECEIVED General supervision is provided by the assigned Water Resources Coordinator. Work assignments and direction may also be received from the Public Works Supervisor. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Provides lead direction to Water Resources Mechanic I employees and temporary employees assigned to the Maintenance Section. Administrative Functions Maintains accurate up-to-date records; researches prices and orders materials; ensures contract compliance; and uses a computer to perform spreadsheet and specialized functions, such as utilizing utility management system software for inventory control, preventative maintenance work order generation, and other programs. License : Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.
