ADULT PSYCHIATRIST POSITION, SAN MATEO MEDICAL CENTER San Mateo Medical Center's Department of Psychiatry is looking for full-time Psychiatrists to join our core medical staff. Typical work assignments: In Psychiatric Emergency Services, the emergency psychiatrist collaborates with nursing staff and the medical emergency department to evaluate and treat patients presenting with emergency and urgent psychiatric and/or behavioral problems, often complicated by medical problems and substance abuse. On the acute psychiatric inpatient unit, the typical assignment is direct care of 6-9 patients per day, as well as supervision of a resident team covering up to 6 patients. On the medical-surgical and long-term care units, the C/L psychiatrist is on duty 4-6 hours per day. Duties include performing inpatient consultations and collaborating with attending physicians and other staff, admitting patients to the acute psychiatric unit, evaluating capacity, applying and lifting legal holds, testifying at legal hearings, and making conservatorship referrals. At the long-term subacute psychiatric hospital, the psychiatrist provides ongoing care for approximately 30 non-acute patients, managing their medications, providing and overseeing psychotherapy and behavioral management programs, and collaborating with the internal medicine team to care for non-psychiatric medical issues. Description The Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) Division of San Mateo County Health seeks an experienced psychiatrist to serve as Supervising Adult Psychiatrist for our comprehensive behavioral health clinic, South County Behavioral Health Center in Redwood City, California, and East of Bayshore Community Counseling Center in East Palo Alto, California; serving a wide area of Southern San Mateo County with a very diverse population including LatinX, Pacific Islander, and Asian communities. The position is currently full time, 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week). The Supervising Adult Psychiatrist provides leadership and supervision to several psychiatrists and other disciplines as well as maintaining a clinical caseload with an emphasis on seriously mentally ill clients who may also have a co-occurring substance use disorder. This Supervising Adult Psychiatrist will report directly to the Medical Director of BHRS and will assist her/him in providing the highest quality behavioral health care in Sothern San Mateo County. Description The Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) Division of San Mateo County Health seeks an experienced psychiatrist to serve as Supervising Adult Psychiatrist for our comprehensive behavioral health clinic, South County Behavioral Health Center in Redwood City, California, and East of Bayshore Community Counseling Center in East Palo Alto, California; serving a wide area of Southern San Mateo County with a very diverse population including LatinX, Pacific Islander, and Asian communities. The Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division uses evidence-based treatment approaches in our system of care services, while seeking continuing improvement and development in the areas of cultural competence, integrated services for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use problems, and supportive housing. Our achievements reflect the work of dedicated staff as well as the valuable input of behavioral health system partners--criminal justice and human services agencies, private providers and contract agencies, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Commission members, families, and consumers. The ideal candidate is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and has at least three years of experience supervising psychiatrists and/or psychiatry residents, as well as a keen interest in and knowledge of policy and planning on behavioral health issues and organizational and clinical performance measurements. Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment and Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine DATA 2000 Waiver is preferred. Description: Job Summary The Student Wellness Center (SWC) provides limited psychiatric services for students as an augmented service to regularly registered students. Psychiatric services may include diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic psychiatric illness. A SWC Psychiatrist is expected to obtain a detailed intake assessment, as well as to order any appropriate laboratory tests to support diagnostic evaluations. A SWC Psychiatrist may, when appropriate, refer students to other practitioners within the SJSU Wellness Center. Description: Job Summary The Student Wellness Center (SWC) provides limited psychiatric services for students as an augmented service to regularly registered students. Psychiatric services may include diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic psychiatric illness. A SWC Psychiatrist is expected to obtain a detailed intake assessment, as well as to order any appropriate laboratory tests to support diagnostic evaluations. A SWC Psychiatrist may, when appropriate, refer students to other practitioners within the SJSU Wellness Center. Relief Mental Health Psychiatrist may function as the clinical lead for multidisciplinary treatment team. Essential Job Functions Screens for health-related concerns and performs psychiatric evaluations. Develops comprehensive treatment plans. Evaluates individuals/clients to determine if probable cause is met to initiate detention under WIC 5150. Provides clinical consultation to other medical providers and staff, including interns and resident physicians, regarding treatment interventions, medical and diagnostic work performed and participates in clinical case conferences. Performs medication support services by evaluating the need for psychotropic medications. Prescribes, administers medications, and monitors their overall effect. Orders, obtains, reviews and monitors pertinent laboratory tests. Participates in the quality of care and provides input into formulating corrective action plans to mitigate future clinical risk. Testifies in court as an expert witness, as needed. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in Psychiatry or equivalent training** **Equivalent training is defined as that training which the appropriate American Certifying Board formally recognizes in writing as being equivalent. LICENSE: California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California. A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. PHYSICAL CLASS: 2 - Light. Description San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) seeks board eligible or board certified psychiatrists to serve as a staff Child Psychiatrist for the San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services division. The position, providing professional child psychiatric diagnostic and therapeutic services to clients in various divisions of San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, is full time, and currently open for hire. Service sites will include an integrated behavioral health team within a pediatric clinic, outpatient behavioral health clinics, and a juvenile justice facility. The specifics of the treatment sites where services will be delivered will be determined in collaboration with the successful candidate, the Supervising Child Psychiatrist, and the BHRS Medical Director.
