Traffic Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class in the Traffic Maintenance Worker series. Under supervision, performs a wide variety of skilled traffic safety maintenance tasks, including installation, maintenance, and removal of traffic control signs and markings on City streets for effective traffic control. Fabricates, assembles, installs, maintains and removes traffic control signs and markings. Installs and maintains proper signing for construction and maintenance zones. Places traffic control markings through the application of paints, plastics, and reflective markers. Operates and maintains equipment required to accomplish the work in traffic control maintenance operations. This class is in a flexibly-staff series, which requires one year of satisfactory service before an employee can promote to the journey (Traffic Maintenance Worker II) level. Employees in classes that require one year of service for flexing, will not serve an additional probationary period at the journey level. Traffic Maintenance Worker I incumbents are expected to progress to the Traffic Maintenance Worker II ($4,072-$4,946/mo.) level with appropriate training, experience, and satisfactory job performance. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
