We are accepting applications for the position of Building Inspection Supervisor. Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the Building Inspection Supervisor is a working supervisor that has responsibility for the supervision of staff that perform inspection of routine and complex structures, including repairs, alterations, and building systems, for compliance with building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes, and California energy and accessibility laws. The Building Inspection Supervisor is also responsible for investigating existing buildings for compliance with housing code and general land use standards.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills coupled with interpersonal and customer service skills. This person will have experience supervising staff while leading by example and encouraging staff to take pride and ownership of their work efforts. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of municipal inspection issues and practices. This person will embrace and effectively implemented new ideas and have extensive knowledge of current trends and issues that affect and influence all aspects of code compliance and interpretation.

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to completion of high school, supplemented by additional coursework in construction technology, building inspection or related field, and four years of responsible building inspection experience are required. Lead or supervisory experience is desirable.

License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required.

  • Must possess either a valid Building Inspector OR Combination Building Inspector certificate issued by the International Code Council (ICC), prior to appointment.
  • Must obtain a valid Commercial Combination Inspector certificate issued by the International Code Council (ICC) or all the following valid International Code Council (ICC) individual certifications: Building/Electrical/Mechanical/Plumbing Inspector within one year of employment.
