DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the entry-level classification responsible for performing aquatics facility maintenance. Performance requires ability to work independently with initiative and discretion within established guidelines. Receives direction from Recreation Supervisor or the Aquatics Maintenance and Construction Foreman. Work is reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Incumbents may not perform all duties. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks for the aquatic maintenance program, requiring proficiency in chemical treatment, and water testing; ensures aquatics facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition Ensures that pool systems operate in accordance with mandated requirements. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, chlorination equipment, chemical feed system, storage tanks Maintains records of pool testing results and actions/adjustments taken; documents general maintenance activities Performs landscaping tasks within aquatic facilities and grounds Performs custodial tasks within aquatics facilities and grounds Performs other duties as assigned WORK ENVIRONMENT Employees may work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids rendering First Aid and CPR and are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is primarily performed within a public swimming pool environment and office environment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and distinguish colors in wiring; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify or resolve pool maintenance problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate tools and equipment. Incumbents in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb and descend ladders, operate hand tools, and inspect pool work sites. Incumbents must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment. Tiny Tot Camp: Under direction, coordinates Tiny Tot Camps including programming, scheduling, record keeping, reporting, and interacting with parents; Serves as the lead staff at the City’s Tiny Tot camp for ages 3-5 during El Segundo Unified School District (ESUSD) winter break (2 weeks), spring break (1 week), and summer break (9 weeks); and Must be available to work camp hours Monday through Friday during all ESUSD winter, spring, and summer breaks. Qualifications Qualifications: A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying.
