Assistant Professor in Construction Management

The Construction Management (CM) Department in the College of Architecture & Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position to start in the 2024-25 academic year. The CM Department is a tight-knit group of faculty and staff working to provide students with the best possible education and the help they need to succeed academically and prepare for the challenges they can expect in the professional world. Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Anticipated hiring range: $95,000 to $99,000.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A master's degree in construction or a construction-related field from an accredited institution. 5 years relevant professional experience in the United States construction industry or comparable international experience. Individuals with an earned doctorate in construction or a construction-related field shall receive credit for the equivalent of two years of professional construction experience. Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, conduct themselves professionally, and perform appropriate service functions at the department, college, and university levels. Specialization in a scholarly area that addresses topics applicable to the construction industry and demonstrated ability and commitment to pursue scholarly activities. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A PhD or doctoral degree in construction or a construction-related field. Demonstrated record of scholarly activities that contribute to the field of construction management. Professional certifications or licenses related to the construction industry. 3 years of relevant professional experience in project management or a supervisory capacity. Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment. A teaching specialization in one of the following areas but not limited to: building mechanical systems, building electrical systems, building energy efficiency, renewable energy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Construction Management Department is one of five departments in Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design. It offers an ACCE-accredited, 4-year bachelor of science in construction management degree program, a minor in construction management, and sponsors interdisciplinary minors in heavy civil construction and real property development. The Department maintains close ties with industry and takes pride in its career-oriented programs focused on practical application. As part of the college’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, Construction Management partners with Architecture, Architectural Engineering, City and Regional Planning, Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture. The Department currently has 18 full-time faculty, 11 part-time faculty and over 500 undergraduate majors.
