CASUAL RECREATION ATTENDANT

10 - 25 HOURS/WEEK

(Recreation Assistant-Job Code 9325)

Note: Casual, non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

Under general supervision of the Site Manager or designee, the recreation attendant will oversee proper use and rental activity of Library and Recreation facilities including performance of basic and minor custodial duties, ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of the facilities..

Essential Job Functions

May include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Oversee all facility use activities: notify appropriate personnel regarding safety and security problems during building activities.
  • Ensure participants are completing required paperwork for specific programs/services.
  • Collect fees as needed.
  • Assist in the inventory of program supplies and equipment.
  • Perform basic and minor custodial duties during activities, documenting and reporting repairs; lock and unlock doors; clear and secure alarm system.
  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment and set-up rooms at various sites for different activities or programs; return room to original condition following event.
  • Ensure proper compliance of established facility rules and regulations by program participants.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Become familiar with programs, services, and special events taking place at Columbia Neighborhood Center.
  • Complete clerical and administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Greet customers and answer telephone.
  • Other duties as assigned.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This is a casual position with the City of Sunnyvale. It is an hourly position with no benefits. Vacancies are during weekday evenings up to 11:30 pm and weekends, all hours.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push, pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds is also required. Semi-rigorous outdoor work may be required on occasion. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age is 16 years old.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to evaluate emergency situations and act decisively and effectively to resolve the situation.
  • Perform all physical aspects of assigned duties including lifting, carrying and moving furniture.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Deal tactfully with people and carry a high degree of customer service.
  • Deliver service which exceeds the expectations of our customers.
  • Familiar with basic computer functions and applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be available to work 6-8 hour shifts on weekdays evenings and 6-10 hour shifts on weekends each week.
Licenses/Certificates:
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record or the ability to supply alternate transportation as approved by the appointing authority.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in customer service and/or facility-related services
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, or Farsi
