The Innovation and Technology Department is accepting applications for a Datacenter Environmental Administrator II* to maintain a variety of computer and datacenter systems. This position will design, deploy, monitor, and maintain datacenter environmental systems such as critical power, cooling, and fire suppression in raised and non-raised floors in multiple datacenters. This position will also support a variety of computer related systems such as UPS's, Generator and Power monitoring, and CRAC units.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Background Investigation: Employees must pass a background check prior to appointment.
Physical: This position requires lifting heavy objects, either manually or with the aid of lifting devices. It also requires occasional squatting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, stooping, and working in dirty environments with extreme temperature changes.
Environment: Incumbents work in confined spaces and may occasionally be exposed to hazards.
Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. Employees must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license and liability insurance. At times the employee will be expected to drive their personal vehicle.
Availability: Incumbents will be required to work on call, in a 24-hour environment, overtime, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Refusal to work on-call and overtime may result in removal from the list or termination.

Minimum Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed, post-high school coursework from an accredited university or technical school in Computer Sciences, Programming, Computer Operations, or a closely related field. A list of coursework must be submitted with the application.

-AND-

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of work experience, within the past five (5) years, performing design, administration, and operational support at the enterprise level of the following areas:
  • Datacenter administration or engineering on equipment necessary to run a multi-tenant datacenter, including: power,power distribution, UPS, cooling, fire suppression, seismology, security, and monitoring.
  • Building management systems including Desigo, Siemens, Johnson Controls, ALC, Schneider or equivalent.
  • Experience with basic programming and debugging of PLC based systems.


Education Substitution : An additional year of qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge and experience designing and supporting Datacenter environmental equipment such as CRAC/CRAH units, raised floor air flow systems, chilled water plants, UPSs, power distribution units, diesel generators, ATS switches, and monitoring of such equipment is desired. The ideal candidate will possess strong research and analytical skills with ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Staff is expected to have the ability to coordinate with departmental staff, staff from Facilities Management, and External Datacenter Systems contractors. Any Schneider Electric Energy University Data Center, Siemens Automation, or International Data Center Authority course certificates, certifications, or equivalent, are highly desirable. A copy of all certificates must be submitted with the application.
