The Position

An Alcohol and Drug Counselor III is responsible for conducting the more complex individual, family and group counseling services to clients involved in alcohol and drug abuse programs and assist in the coordination of the alcohol and drug abuse programs and activities.

The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill regular full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to twelve (12) months. There is currently 1 (one) vacancy. The available shift is 11am-8pm

Position Requirements

Experience and Education:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: Two years of alcohol and drug counseling experience in a state certified program.

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in psychology, social work, counseling or closely related field. (Additional qualifying experience in a certified alcohol or drug program may be substituted for two years of the required college education on a year-for-year basis.)

Certification: Pursuant to Government Code Section 13010, applicants must be able to provide proof of certification or registration to obtain certification by a State approved Alcohol & Drug Counselor Certification Organization within 6 months of date of hire. Applicants who are currently certified are highly desired.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.

Possession of a current First Aid and CPR certificate is required.

Applicants who are otherwise acceptable, but lack the required certificates, may be appointed with the provision that the required certificates must be obtained within six months after initial appointment.

Special Qualifications:
Candidates may be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Candidates will have to take and pass a tuberculosis (TB) test.

The Recruitment Process

1. Applications will be accepted on-line until the current vacancy is filled.

2. Applications will be reviewed for verification of possession of one of the required licenses and supplemental questions reviewed as they are received until the current vacancy is filled.

3. The most qualified candidates from the scoring of the supplemental questions will be invited for an Oral Panel Interview on a continuous basis until the current vacancy is filled. The most qualified candidates from the oral panel interview will be placed on the eligibility list for up to twelve months.

SALARY -
Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
