Definition and Class Characteristics

Through the services of its departments, Nevada County's Health & Human Services Agency develops and implements programs that fulfill the County’s commitment to provide support to our residents. We are pleased to be recruiting a part-time temporary Public Health Nurse (PHN) I / II for our Immunization Program!

We are currently seeking one PHN to be an integral part of our immunization team. This PHN is assigned to Client Care Services to provide education and outreach to healthcare providers, schools, daycare providers and residents of Nevada County in order to increase the community immunization rates. This Nurse will partner with local coalitions and community partners when possible.
  • Increase our County’s immunization rates through outreach, education, and coordination of flu clinics. Plan, implement, and/or support immunization campaigns and observances within our community.
  • Work with our community to distribute vaccine as necessary to ensure high risk populations have access to low cost vaccines, providing this vital service to underserved communities.
  • Provides support to staff by addressing barriers to vaccination of infants or contacts being managed by the program.
  • Assist in the development and submission of grants
  • Establish a working relationship with WIC programs in the LHJ. Coordinate and provide immunization-related training and materials to WIC staff as feasible.
  • Work with NC Public Information team and local radio/newspaper/social media outlets to recognize special immunization weeks/months (i.e., National Immunization Month in August).
This position is temporary, part-time. The schedule will be flexible, with shifts ranging between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A temporary, part-time employee works on average 20-24 hours but not more than 29 hours per week, for a maximum of 1000 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employees earn sick leave but are not eligible for other vacation or holiday pay, and are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits, or CalPERS.

Per California Department of Public Health regulations, employees working in healthcare positions and/or facilities are required to comply with both California and Federal vaccine policy mandates. Currently, the COVID-19 vaccine and, if you are eligible, the COVID-19 booster, are required for this position. Proof of vaccination and booster may be required if a conditional offer is extended. Sick Leave:

Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.

Medical Benefits:

Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.
