The Position

Heat Plant Specialists operate, adjust, monitor, maintain, clean and repair high and/or low pressure boilers and hot water heat generating equipment, auxiliary equipment such as fuel and combustion systems, compressors, pumps, steam lines, steam traps, heat exchangers, water lines, controls, gauges, and emergency power generators.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

Heat Plant Specialists operate, adjust, monitor, maintain, clean and repair high and/or low pressure boilers and hot water heat generating equipment, auxiliary equipment such as fuel and combustion systems, compressors, pumps, steam lines, steam traps, heat exchangers, water lines, controls, gauges, and emergency power generators. This position is located at Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock, NV and will work under the direct supervision of the Facility Supervisor III. Incumbent will have the skills and experience to perform routine repairs and maintenance of large, commercial boiler and chiller/HVAC mechanical systems, environmental control troubleshooting, diagnostics and repair, chemical treatment of closed and open loop water systems including the troubleshooting and repair of related controls, knowledge of rotating equipment, troubleshooting and repair of pumps and valves. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Completion of a recognized heat plant apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience as a heat plant specialist; OR one year of experience as a Heat Plant Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Journey level experience is gained after the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or after four years full time equivalent skilled work experience under the supervision of a journey level boiler operator. This position requires working directly with inmates. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
