The Position

The City of Riverside's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is actively seeking LIFEGUARD/INSTRUCTORS for the 2024 pool season that connects with residents in each community across the city and highlights safety at its facilities.

This is a seasonal, part-time, hourly position working under the direction of the Aquatics Program. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.

SPECIAL NOTE : Candidates must be lifeguard certified. Upcoming Lifeguard Certification Courses offered by the City of Riverside:
  • FINAL COURSE: MAY 4th - 5th, 2024

Work Performed
Under supervision, LIFEGUARD/INSTRUCTORS perform responsible and technical work in the protection of life, the enforcement of safety rules and regulations, maintain facilities, attend all in-service events, effectively communicate with other lifeguards and management, and the provision of swimming instructions at a public swimming pool; and do related work as required.

Qualifications

Education : Equivalent to the completion of the ninth grade.

E xperience : No experience required for entry level.

Necessary Special Requirement s:
  • Minimum age fifteen years old.
  • Possession of a Water Safety Instructor's Certificate required at Step 2 and Step 3. (WSI certification opportunity available post onboarding)
  • Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate (which includes first aid) before hire date.
  • Possession of a current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer Certificate or American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate before hire date.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. An equivalency statement from an evaluation company certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) at http://www.naces.org/members.html or the Association of International Credential Evaluators Inc. (AICE) at http://aice-eval.org/members/.
  2. An advanced-level degree from an accredited US college or university.
