Position Description
Performs advanced level social work. Supervises lower level clinical social workers and/or ancillary staff.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Communication: All forms of communication with team members and supervisor will be occur in a timely manner utilizing direct, complete, and adequate information. Communicates in a respectful manner. Addresses problems with person directly involved or their supervisor exclusively. Receives and is open to constructive feedback. Seeks feedback from others to improve safety and clinical practice.
  • Treatment Team: Provides pertinent information about their patient observations/interactions as well as collateral information re: patient's social, behavioral, and emotional functioning. Update treatment team on special program referrals, discharge status and/or release planning.
  • Psychosocial Evaluations: Staff member conducts a patient interview within 10 workdays of admission which is day one. The psychosocial evaluation and all corresponding documentation are completed per policy/supervisory directive. Adheres to clinical and security procedures when conducting the interview for each psychosocial evaluation.
  • Case Management Tasks: Responds to I-60's in accordance to existing policies. Responds to Sick Call Requests per policy and while using required forms. Documents family calls in the medical record. Completes release planning tasks including necessary communication and paperwork in a timely manner and according to policy and procedure. Manages treatment team referrals in timely and appropriate manner. Manages referrals to specialized programs in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic approach and creates and maintains positive therapeutic environment. Maintains professional, therapeutic boundaries. Adheres to established guidelines for individual and group demographics. Adheres to established guidelines for individual and psychosocial educational groups.
  • Involuntary Admissions - The clinician serves as and demonstrates knowledge of the patient advocate's role in representing the patient's right to refuse treatment in accordance with procedural hearings. Represents at the hearings the declared wishes of the patients, who may be living with severe mental illness and/or serious emotional disturbances, to the reviewing physicians who determine patient's need for inpatient psychiatric care. Demonstrates knowledge of the process and procedure for a Civil Commitment Hearing. The clinician understands and demonstrates their role for a civil commitment hearing in a competent and professional manner. Documentation for each hearing is completed according to the associated policies.
  • Clinical Documentation and Correspondence: Documents using legible handwriting and/or appropriate forms in the EMR, professional language, supports clinical assessment with objective information/observation, and avoids jargon. Follows policy and procedure for group therapy documentation, row rounds, clinical notes (i.e. SOAP notes),for care plan, and for I-60s.
  • Effective Use of technology Demonstrates knowledge and ability to document, find information and communicate effectively using the Electronic Medical Record, Microsoft Office Programs, TDCJ Host on Demand and programs/operations utilized by CMHC and TTUHSC.
  • Additional Tasks: Participates in committees or teams in order to enhance or create programs at the John T. Montford Unit. Participation in unit programs for staff security safety and support. Supervision of BSW students. Presentation or leadership in statewide or national professional organizations or conferences. Presentations for classes at local universities. Serves as certified Spanish speaking interpreter if TDCJ certification is secured.


Required Qualifications
Education:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (B. A.) from an approved accredited four-year college or university in a behavioral science.
License/Certification:
Credentialed as a Certified Social Worker.
