Position Description
Ensures on-time and quality delivery of technological and digital projects. This title is restricted to the Institute of Telehealth Technology and Innovation or the Office of Research and Innovation.

Major/Essential Functions
This position will lead the universitys research IT initiatives, specializing in the facilitation of high-performance computing with our partner general academic campus Texas Tech University, including storage and processing capacity, and will ensure robust security protocols. This role is pivotal for ensuring that research data, especially personal health information derived from human subjects research and clinical trials, is handled with utmost integrity and security. The individual must seamlessly integrate with the broader IT community within the university and bridge the diverse needs of both basic science and clinical research faculty with the overarching computing infrastructure of the university.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Research IT Leadership: Establishes productive relationships with the TTUHSC research community and other partners to understand customer needs. Works collaboratively with TTUHSC IT, vendors and other partners to translate customer needs into objective goals, ensuring that they are aligned with the university's vision, TTUHSC IT framework and the specific needs of the Office of Research and Innovation.
  2. High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC) Liaison: Work collaboratively with the High-Performance Computing Center of Texas Tech University, TTUHSC IT Division and other business partners as needed to communicate the data processing needs of the TTUHSC Research community. Works with appropriate partners to facilitate access to HPCC resources for TTUHSC faculty.
  3. Institute of Telehealth and Digital Technology: Collaborate effectively with the newly established Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Institute of Telehealth and Digital Technology to ensure alignment of resources and maximize digital health research opportunities for faculty and students by leveraging the combined infrastructure of the Office of Research and Innovation and the new institute.
  4. Data Storage Strategy: Works with TTUHSC IT Division to explore solutions for, and coordinate delivery of, efficient, scalable, and secure data storage solutions to that adhere to the Data Management Storage Plan and operating policies.
  5. Security and Compliance: Ensures all appropriate TTUHSC security measures, are utilized on all institutionally owned equipment. Works with vendors, PIs and TTUHSC IT to ensure installation and configuration of security controls meet the TTUHSC IT Security data security standards and provide appropriate equipment functionality as needed.
  6. Training and Development: Organize training sessions and workshops for research staff, promoting best practices in data management, storage, and security and other technology topics as needed.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Monitor the latest trends and innovations in research IT, ensuring that the university remains at the forefront of technology and best practices.
  8. Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation on the status of research IT projects, challenges, and opportunities for growth.


Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree with 6 years of related experience and training OR a combination of education and/or related experience to equal 10 years. Must obtain an ITIL certification or equivalent within one year of hire. Certification shall be maintained once obtained.
