About the Position

This is a part-time, hourly, grant-funded and temporary position through December 31, 2024 with the possibility of re-appointment.

The Outreach Coordinator will report to the Principal Investigator and work with other investigators on the grant to facilitate outreach activities for students and partners as part of the INCLUDE grant supporting data science programs at Cal State East Bay and community colleges. They will work across departments, campuses, and organizations to develop plans and activities for data science promotion and data science project collaborations. This position will lead all outreach activities for the grant, including but not limited to mini workshop development, flyers, and social media content, and maintain detailed documentation of these activities.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the PIs (Principal Investigators) and Co-PIs to develop advertising materials and social media content about Data Science programs; ensure the INCLUDE communications and media (such as web and social media), newsletters, and reports represent the program and the program brand; work closely with PIs to create a budget for producing these materials and work within that budget.
  • Develop mini Data Science themed workshops for students to spark their interest. These would be community events for students that support inclusive and equity focused experiences and spaces and would be held at a partner community college at their MESA center or following an Introduction to Data Science class. One workshop would be teaching students how to create a word cloud. Data for the word cloud could be a famous person’s tweets or song lyrics.
  • Solicit, develop, and maintain partnerships with local organizations through email and in person to create data science related projects and workshops.
  • Represent the INCLUDE grant at campus events; serve as lead for communications with students and faculty at Cal State East Bay and partner community colleges and organizations regarding upcoming events and activities related to data science and respond to email inquiries about these activities.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to increase awareness of the opportunities supported by the INCLUDE grant.
  • Maintain grant website and resources and disseminate flyers, brochures, posters and other print media for outreach activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school program (diploma), technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge
  • Belief in and commitment to the core values of Cal State East Bay and grant objectives
  • A Bachelor’s degree is recommended
  • Background in Data Science
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team effort
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficient with video editing, social media platforms and other creative platforms such as Canvas
  • Organizing skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Creativity

Condition(s) of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment. Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
