Click here to learn more about the Public Health Services Division THE POSITION Health Education Specialists have responsibility for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating health promotion and education programs. Health Education Specialists provide direct interventions, consultation, and technical assistance to staff and the community.
This position will be in the Chronic Disease Prevention Program. Duties of this position involve working with Solano County and city planners and stakeholders to address adding Public Health input into their General Plans, Specific Plans, and zoning discussions relative to helping the community’s built environment be more conducive to health promoting options such as biking, walking, connectivity, inclusion of grocery stores. In addition, this new position is forging the way in bringing the Public Health to the table in climate change discussions and plans to prevent/mitigate impacts of climate change on our local residents. Starting with air quality, fire threats, heat/cold, and sea level rise, this position is providing vital input into decisions. The incumbent will assess chronic disease needs of the community such as preventing hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. This position prepares and submits progress reports and identifies opportunities for new partnerships internally and externally to reach the goals of the work plan.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Experience: One year of full time, paid experience, in health promotion and education activities.
Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree is required from an accredited college or university preferred in health education or in public health, education, health science, sociology, psychology or a related field including at least three college level classes in public health/health education or Certification as a Health Education Specialist (CHES). A Master’s degree in Public Health may be substituted for the experience.
Special Requirements: - Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license may be required.
- Some assignments may require certification associated with the specific subject area.
- Independent travel is required.
- Candidates for employment may as a condition of employment sign a statement agreeing to comply with Section 11166 of the California Penal Code relating to child abuse reporting.
