Job Description

Minimum Qualifications
Heating & Refrigeration Mechanic II
  • Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two years experience in repair and maintenance of residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
  • Completion of accredited training in air conditioning and refrigeration systems may substitute for one year of the required experience.


Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Class “C” driver’s license. If required, must obtain an appropriate commercial driver’s license ( CDL ) within 90 days of employment with the City.
  • If required by the assignment, must be certified within six (6) months of employment in accordance with EPA standards in air conditioning service, repairs and Freon recovery to include Freon recovery equipment operations.
  • If required by the assignment, must be certified within six (6) months of employment as a state vehicle inspector in accordance with TDPS procedures and re


Physical Requirements:
  • Must possess Texas Class C driver license in good standing.
  • EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification
  • Must be a registered HVAC Tech with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation..


Heating & Refrigeration Mechanic III
  • Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four years’ experience in repair and maintenance of commercial/industrial heating, ventilation, air conditioning or refrigeration systems, including chillers.
  • Completion of accredited training in air conditioning and refrigeration systems may substitute for one year of the required experience.


Licenses or Certifications:
  • Texas Driver’s License in good standing
  • EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification
  • Must obtain unrestricted Texas Air Conditioning License for City use within 120 calendar days of hire.


Physical Requirements:
Continuous outdoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying up to 50 lbs., lifting up to 50lbs., client/ customer contact, indoor activity, exposure to electrical hazards, explosive hazards, biological hazards, dust/mites hazards. Heating & Refrigeration Mechanic II or III : Performs skilled and advanced senior-level work regarding:
  • Installing, maintaining, and servicing Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration ( HVAC ) systems, including waterlines, valves, drive belts, steam traps, chillers, boilers, pumps, and cooling tower(s).
  • Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs chiller controls/safety circuits, and refrigerant circuits on multi-stage chillers, air conditioning systems, ice machines, and other equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, and performs start-up of building automation system network devices and components.
  • Maintains and repairs energy management control systems network i.e. control boards, relays, sensors, valves, etc.
  • May have lead responsibility for special projects and provide guidance and training in HVAC work to apprentices and other maintenance personnel.

  • Monday thru Friday (7:00 a.m. till 3:30 p.m.)
