Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Planning, Design & Construction, the Project Coordinator estimates, plans and schedules Facilities Management maintenance and construction programs, including capital outlay projects.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,000.00 per month - $8,250.00 per month; commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,638.00 per month - $8,391.00 per month

Pay Plan: 12 months

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, to be scheduled between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. May be eligible for partial telework schedule upon management approval, following a training period.

Department Information

Our responsibilities include master planning, capital planning, design & capital project management for the University.

The Director of PDCS also functions as the Deputy Building Official assigned to the campus by the Chancellor's office in enforcing CSU permitting procedures, reviews and approvals.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities:
A general knowledge of building materials, costing procedures and the sequential methods of modern construction practices so that various crafts are brought onto the project at the proper time to assure continuous progress to bring the job to completion in a timely manner. Knowledge of the time required for performing various segments of construction and maintenance work is necessary in order to properly schedule work.

A general knowledge of the building codes and trades is also required to enable the incumbent to write complete and concise specifications to accompany plans for contract jobs. A general knowledge of State contract procedures is desired.

A general knowledge of the requirements for the proper maintenance of mechanical equipment.

A general knowledge of budgeting procedures including an understanding of price changes due to inflation and other economic factors.

A general knowledge of computerized preventive maintenance systems and ability to access such information through use of a terminal is desirable.

The ability to read, interpret, and prepare plans and specifications for all phases of construction and building maintenance.

The ability to read, understand and utilize technical information, parts lists and operating manuals is required in order to program and schedule a predetermined preventive maintenance system and to keep the various mechanical and stationary equipment properly maintained and in continuous working condition. The ability to work effectively with all levels of University personnel as well as off-campus professional agencies.

Experience:
Three years’ experience in a staff or supervisory capacity in plant operations administration or the construction industry, including experience in design, plan analysis and estimating for multiple trade projects.

Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college in engineering, architecture, business management, plant management, industrial technology or public administration. Up to four years of applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Required Qualifications

1. Progressively responsible planning, estimating, and scheduling experience preferably in the public sector design and/or construction work.

2. Demonstrated knowledge of building materials, costing procedures, and the sequential methods of modern construction practices so that various trades are effectively coordinated into the project to ensure continuous progress towards timely job completion.

3. Knowledge of the time required for performing various segments of construction and repair work is necessary in order to properly schedule work.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of the building codes (including accessibility compliance) and trades is also required to enable the incumbent to write complete and concise specifications to accompany plans for contract jobs.

5. A general knowledge of State contracting procedures is also desired.

6. Demonstrated knowledge of the requirements for the proper installation and maintenance of building equipment and infrastructure systems.

7. General knowledge of budgeting procedures including an understanding of price changes due to inflation and other economic factors.

8. Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates including the verification of estimates by others.

9. Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications for all phases of construction and building maintenance.

10. Ability to draw, print, and updated in AutoCAD is preferred.

11. Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing, and electronically.

12. Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Windows XP, and project scheduling/estimating software.

13. Ability to work effectively with all levels of University personnel as well as off-campus professional agencies.

14. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and the ability to obtain an Asbestos Building Inspector Certificate (EPA approved). (CSUS will provide training for this certificate if the applicant does not already posses one.)

15. Demonstrated ability to perform in a service environment.

Preferred Qualifications

17. A Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of one year of related experience, or five years of an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

18. Strong computer skills and familiarity with a variety of standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)

19. Experience in construction and renovation projects.

20. Knowledge of AutoCAD or other drafting software.

21. Experience with construction management software.

22. Experience in an institutional environment.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Valid California Driver’s License and safe driving record.

The ability to obtain an Asbestos Building Inspector Certificate (EPA approved). (CSUS will provide training for this certificate if the applicant does not already posses one.)
