Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Dean with oversight by the Art Galleries Director, the University Foundation Arts Collection Registrar is responsible for the management and maintenance of the CSUN University Foundation Art Collection. This position provides professional work for the safekeeping and management of the Art Collection; main responsibilities are to digitize, publish, and organize the collection. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills as described.

Duties and Responsibilities (other duties as assigned):
  • Update Collection files, status of Collection, accessions, deaccessions, acquisitions, and gifts. Maintain an active inventory list and provide care for the objects in the University Foundation Art Collection Inventory. Establish provenance and organize correct documentation for all works in the Collection. Researching past practices and remaining current with present and future practices.
  • Photographing all current objects in the Collection, as well as all incoming donations and assigning permanent storage locations. Enter information of all incoming donations into the collections database. Maintain Collection database in digital form, web, and hard copy.
  • Generating and maintaining all documentation including incoming/outgoing intercampus and off-campus loan and gift agreements, receipts, and condition reports. Deliver and install works on load/de-install and return works to collections. Assess conditions of an office environment for loaning works to ensure safety and maintenance of works. Generate labels for works on loan. Shipping, receiving, packing and unpacking of works of art. Generate condition reports for incoming and outgoing works loaned to the Gallery.
  • Directing correspondence, reconciling receipts, ordering shipment and supplies as needed. Organizing exhibitions of the Foundation Collection as needed. Serving as liaison between the University Foundation Art Collection and the campus community.
  • Ability to research grant opportunities and assist in preparing grant proposal. Serve as College Liaison with grant offices.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with Registrar procedures, methods, care, and maintenance of artworks, paintings, works on paper, sculptures, mixed media works, printings, and organic materials.
  • Ability to recommend repairs, storage facilities and improvements to Collection.
  • Background in Art History and Contemporary Art and practices.
  • Ability to coordinate with web designer to update work on web page.
  • FileMarker Pro, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign, Scanner/Camera software.
  • Masters in Art History or Visual Arts preferred.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).

The anticipated hiring range: $18.54 /hr - $26.25 /hr

Full Pay range: $18.54 /hr - $27.28 /hr

Time Base: Part-Time
