The Position

Job Appointment: Regular, Full time

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm. Alternate schedule may be available.

Work Location: This position has an exception to work primarily remote. However, there will be instances when it is necessary to come onsite for work. Position Summary

Join the City of Portland as a UX & UI Designer, where your creativity and technical skills will drive the transformation of digital services for our community and our staff. In this role, you will:
  • Design: Develop intuitive and accessible digital service designs, creating prototypes, mock-ups and user journey maps to advocate for user needs.
  • Lead and Innovate: Guide design projects from conception to implementation, while staying updated with the latest trends in UI/UX and service design.
  • Collaborate: Work with cross-functional teams to ensure design alignment and effective implementation.
  • Research: Conduct in-depth user research and analysis to inform design decisions and improve service delivery.
  • Engage: Advocate for user-centric design principles and maintain ongoing communication with stakeholders.

To Qualify

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
Experience in UI/UX design with a focus on service design, preferably at an organization undergoing user-centric revolutions. Experience creating journey-maps, user story maps, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, high fidelity designs, and other human-centered design artifacts that help to design software products. Experience analyzing data to inform design strategy and product usability. Knowledge of user research methodologies. Experience leading design projects and collaborating with a diverse team. Applicants must also:
  • Submit a copy of their work portfolio.
  • Pass a comprehensive police background investigation.

A typical way of obtaining the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is three (3) years of professional experience in UI/UX design, with a focus on service design. While a background in design or a related field is common, we welcome candidates who have acquired their skills through various paths.   • Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the equally ranked eligible list.

Step 4: Selection (Interview): May

  • Hiring bureau will review and select candidates to interview.
  • Please note, the selection process may take up to 90 days from the notification of being placed on the eligible list.
