NATURE OF WORK:
Performs technical field inspection and office work enforcing national, state, and local codes governing the design, construction, and renovation of buildings, structures, site infrastructures, wastewater treatment facilities, and other public works projects. Work involves inspection of buildings and structures, fire and life safety systems, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installations. Work requires considerable knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, building construction, fire and life safety systems, or mechanical field as well as in-depth knowledge of all applicable codes and ordinances. Employees assigned to this classification must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the interpretation and application of codes in making technical decisions. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines. Performance is reviewed through reports submitted, meetings, and results obtained for technical sufficiency and consistent application.

Minimum Starting Salary:
Construction Inspector I -C : $24.48 - $31.21, per hour, depending on qualifications
Construction Inspector II-C : $25.85 to $32.96 per hour, depending on qualifications
Construction Inspector III-C: $27.46 to $35.01 per hour, depending on qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Associates Degree with construction related coursework in area of assignment.

Construction Inspector I C (Plumbing): Minimum of five (5) years experience in Plumbing work required or a combination of post-secondary education, training, and experience totaling five (5) years. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAI) as a Standard Inspector - Plumbing, or must provide proof of State of Florida Provisional Certification upon application. Must obtain standard certificate within one (1) year from date of hire. A valid Florida Driver's License is required. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.

Construction Inspector II- C ( Plumbing ): Minimum of seven to eight (7-8) years experience in Plumbing work required or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training, and experience totaling seven to eight (7-8) years. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAI) as a Standard Inspector - Plumbing. A valid Florida Driver's License is required. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph. .

Construction Inspector III-C (Building): Minimum of nine (9) years experience in Plumbing required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience totaling nine (9) years. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAI) as a Standard Inspector - Plumbing. A valid Florida Driver's License is required. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
