DESCRIPTION:

STARTING SALARY between $54,452 and $56,873 based on experience. Additional $6,083 per year for those employed as Paramedics. Incentive pay for those assigned to special teams.

NATURE OF WORK:
General job functions include; (1) Firefighting - Emergency; (2) Firefighting - Non-Emergency; (3) Emergency Medical Services; (4) Work Related Activities. This job is located in the Field Operations Bureau of the Orlando Fire Department and is under the general supervision of the Company Commander. Firefighters will perform individually and/or as a member of a firefighting team and will participate in fire suppression activities including firefighting, rescue, first aid, ventilation, forcible entry, salvage, overhaul, and inspection practices.

THE CITY OF ORLANDO is looking for highly motivated, professional individuals who are seeking a long-term career in fire/rescue. The City of Orlando Fire Department (OFD) provides the community a full range of fire suppression, emergency medical service, hazardous materials management, dive rescue, and high angle/below grade tactical rescue. The OFD also offers fire prevention/inspection services, city-wide disaster planning and coordination, and public education. The department answers more than 60,000 alarms each year and operates eighteen engines, eight tower-ladder trucks, eleven rescues, one heavy rescue and multiple other specialized units (dive, hazmat, arson/bomb, etc.).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must have Florida State Firefighter certification AND either EMT or Paramedic certification as of June 28, 2024. We do not accept National Registry Firefighter Certification. However, we do accept National Registry EMT and Paramedic certifications for testing purposes. Candidates must provide proof of state of Florida EMT or Paramedic Certification upon receiving a conditional offer of employment.

HIRING PROCESS : Hiring both EMTs and Paramedics.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
All candidates must complete FireTEAM and CPAT testing and the Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) Part 1 through the National Testing Network by June 28, 2024, at 1700 hours.

If you have already completed FireTEAM and CPAT, your results must have been completed within twelve months of the date of application. If your results are older than 12 months from the date of application or you have never completed FireTEAM or CPAT, you will be required to schedule and complete your exams with NTN by June 28, 2024, at 1700 hours.

For those applicants who have previously passed FireTEAM with NTN within twelve months from the date you submit your firefighter application, contact NTN’s candidate support line at 855-821-3761 for instructions on adding the Orlando Fire Department to receive your scores.

If your results are older than 12 months from the date of the application, or you have never completed FireTEAM or CPAT, you will be required to schedule and complete your exams with NTN by June 28, 2024 , at 1700 hours.

Candidates must also complete the Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) Part 1 with NTN. There is no minimum passing score for the PSSA, but it must be completed by the close of the job application.

CPAT results from testing centers other than NTN will be accepted. If candidates have passed the CPAT exam via another entity other than NTN, you must upload documentation of your passing status to your online application.

Upon completion of the entry level exam and CPAT testing, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the Orlando Fire Department. Candidates who attain a passing score on both the entry level exam and the physical abilities test will be placed on the department’s eligibility list. The Orlando Fire Department will contact select candidates on the list and will invite them to continue to participate in other stages of the department selection process.

National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing and CPAT testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the Orlando Fire Department’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to the Orlando Fire Department where the final decisions are made.

Certain candidates will be selected for additional screening. Selected candidates must also successfully complete interviews, polygraph exams, a background check, psychological exam and a medical exam.

BENEFIT INFORMATION:

INSURANCE: Life and health insurance available at 95% cost coverage for employee. Optional dental and vision insurance also available. Dependent coverage is available.

VACATION: Start to 2 years, 130 hours per year; 2 to 8 years, 156 hours; 8 to 18 years, 206 hours; 18 years to retirement, 250 hours per year.

HOLIDAYS: Twelve paid holidays. Shift personnel receive twelve hours of straight time pay for each holiday.

HOURS: 24 hours on, 48 hours off. 48-hour work week, additional 24 hours off (Kelly Day) each 8th working day plus two regular days off.

COLLEGE: 100% reimbursement of educational expenses including tuition and required books up to $1,800 per year.

EDUCATION INCIENTIVE: Additional money paid for college degree in Fire or EMS related field. AS, $50 per month; BS or higher, $110 per month.

PENSION: Retire at 68% of salary for 20 years of service or 85% of salary for 25 years of service. A 5% cost of living increase is provided every 3 years to those who retire with at least 20 years of service. A 5 year forward or back DROP is available.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP):

LONGEVITY: Annual longevity payment based on years of service: 5 to 10 years, $600; 10 to 15 years, $1100; 15 to 20 years, $1,600; 20 to 22 years, $2,000; 22 years or more, $2,300.

1. Florida State Firefighter Certification (document from the Division of State Fire Marshall-Bureau of Fire Standards and Training)

2. EMT or Paramedic License

3. College Diploma (e.g., Associate, Bachelor, M aster's degree ), if applicable

4. College Transcripts, if applicable (either official or unofficial transcripts are acceptable). Transcripts are only required from schools from which you obtained a degree.

However, uploading any one of these documents is sufficient at this stage in the selection process.

Those individuals who have completed the requirements for their Florida State Firefighter Certification and EMT or Paramedic License by June 28, 2024, but have not yet received their certificate(s) to attach to their application must call 407.246.3286. This only applies to those who have recently completed their certification or will complete their certification in the near future but have not yet received documentation of their certification. All other applicants should attach their Florida State Firefighter Certification and EMT or Paramedic License to their online application.

Falsification or omission of information will result in rejection of your application or dismissal if you are employed by the City of Orlando. One of the components of the hiring process is a polygraph examination. If you are found to have falsified or omitted any information at any time in the selection process, you will be disqualified even if the accurate information would not have disqualified you. In addition, you may be subject to prosecution under Orlando City Code Section 43.16, False Information. If any portion of this supplemental form is filled out incorrectly or incompletely (e.g., if any questions are left unanswered), your application will not be processed.

If you are hired by the Orlando Fire Department, you will begin as a Probationary Firefighter, which requires successful completion of an orientation. Failure to successfully complete the orientation for any reason whatsoever will result in immediate termination of employment and the removal of your name from further consideration.

Candidate has been convicted of, pled nolo contendere to, or had adjudication withheld for any charge of a felony crime; OR,

Candidate has been convicted of, pled nolo contendere to, or had adjudication withheld for a misdemeanor offense directly related to the position sought AND it has not been four (4) years since the expiration of sentence; OR,
