Job Description

Job Summary

Under general direction from the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, the Senior Project Specialist directs, manages, and oversees the implementation of the division's Beach Pathways Outreach plan and the CSULB Admissions plan as well as projects and initiatives connected to the plan.

Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Beach Pathways Outreach plan and the CSULB Admissions Plan on behalf of the Student Affairs using best practices.
  • Coordinate programs/ideas generated from the admissions plans and its subcomponents including Health and Wellness Team, and Mental Health Advisory Board.
  • Coordinates the virtual outreach resources to ensure implementation and monitor usage.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of mental health issues and best practices in outreach and prevention work relevant to college population, highly preferred. Demonstrated commitment and expertise in working with a diverse student population. Ability to articulate work with a theoretical and philosophical foundation. Ability to communicate and work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Excellent oral and written communication skills, effective presentation skills, and ability to facilitate an open exchange of ideas among colleagues, staff, administrators, state officials, and the public. Use sound judgment in interpreting issues, initiate referrals to other campus offices, departments, individuals, and programs which can provide adjunct assistance as appropriate.

Excellent interpersonal skills required to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Incumbent must have experience in processing, answering, and following up as needed with office mail, phone calls, emails, and in person visitors. Must be able to respond to complex inquiries from the public, students, parents, prospective students, and CSULB employees. Must possess the ability to understand, interpret and respond (orally and in writing) to a broad range of complex issues, procedures, policies, ideas, information, and instructions. Excellent writing and editing skills (including grammar, sentence construction, and vocabulary) to compose and proofread professional level copy of letters, proposals, reports, meeting notes, invitations, and announcements. Demonstrated skill in conducting research, developing reports, and presenting findings. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, and procedures to define problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors, formulate logical objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications and in generating solutions to problems as they arise. Ability to work under pressure and remain calm and focused in a fast-paced work environment.

Ability to apply independent, reasoned judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough, and technically accurate solutions. Ability to coordinate, organize, and demonstrate command of a complex and continuously changing array of information, dates, places, and people in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort in the process of completing projects or projects associated to the program. Experience with a broad range of Microsoft Office (including Word, Publisher, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) to ensure that incumbent will be able to prepare a wide variety of correspondence, reports, forms, brochures, fliers, agendas, minutes, marketing material, and text for printed materials and web pages. Ability to report to work on a consistent and timely manner ready to do job duties.

Ability to represent the department in a professional manner to determine campus customer’s needs and design requirements. Ability to communicate effectively and work within an ethnically diverse campus environment. Must be self-motivated and have excellent administrative and organizational skills. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of related experience required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Occasional weekends and or evenings.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $6,638 - $9750 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6,638 - $12,899 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
