    Position Overview

    The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill current and future vacancies for the classification of Kennel Attendant in the Police Department. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status.**

    Under general supervision, maintains sanitary conditions of kennels and provides care for animals within the animal control center; and performs related duties as required.

    DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES/ASSIGNMENTS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
    • Works in both dog area and cattery cleaning and maintaining dog, cat and other small animal kennels.
    • Assists euthanasia technicians in handling animals during the euthanasia process and disposing of animal carcasses.
    • Assists with impounding animals, administering vaccines and medication, assessing animals for adoption, and returning animals to owners.
    • Public facing-position that interacts with potential pet adopters and partners with shelter volunteers.
    POSITION INFORMATION:
    • The physical work location is the Henderson Animal Care and Control Facility located at 300 E Galleria Drive, Henderson, NV, 89011.
    • Assigned shift/work days may vary and include Fridays, Saturdays, and/or Sundays.
      • Incumbent may also expect to work holidays including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
    • A minimum 4-week training period will apply and will include 2 weeks training with dogs and two weeks training with cats and critters.
    • Majority of shift time will be spent on your feet. Outdoor working conditions and exposure to inclement weather is also applicable.
    IDEAL CANDIDATES:
    • Experienced with professionally handling dogs, cats, and critters
    • Understand animal behaviors in both dogs and cats
    • Demonstrate safe-handling techniques

    NOTE:
    Requests for sit-along(s) or private tours with the City of Henderson Animal Care & Control Facility are not available during the duration of this recruitment. An optional facility tour will be available to candidates that complete and pass the Structured Selection Interview portion of the assessment process.

    PERSONAL HISTORY QUESTIONNAIRE (PHQ):
    The final step in the selection process is the police background investigation. If you are among the group of candidates moving forward to the final steps, you will be required to go through a thorough police background process and complete and submit a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ).     **NOTE TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES:
    • Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.
    • The City of Henderson may elect to test probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary employees who meet the minimum qualifications if there are an insufficient number of full-time non-probationary employees who meet the minimum qualifications or successfully pass the assessment process, or if there are a large number of vacancies or anticipated vacancies in the classification. Probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary employees who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on a separate list which may be utilized for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees as outlined in the Teamsters contract, this separate list may be utilized.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Graduation from high school, or the equivalent.
    • One (1) year of experience in cleaning and maintaining kennels and providing care for animals within an animal shelter, veterinary office, animal hospital, pet store, or other closely related agency or organization.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483.
    • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
    • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years.Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment.

    Skills Test | Remote/Online* (Pass/Fail): Test invitations and instructions will be sent on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025. Candidates will be allotted 48 hours to complete the assessment. * In-Person testing will be available on a limited basis on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025.

    Selection Process
