Full-time position available with the Parks and Recreation Department, Community Services Division, located at 4600 E. 63rd St
Salary Range: $19.27-$29.39/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 12:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
This role primarily handles the upkeep and repair of athletic fields within a park system, including tasks like mowing grass, lining fields for different sports, removing debris, installing and maintaining sports equipment, managing irrigation systems, and ensuring the safety and playability of the fields for various athletic activities, all while adhering to safety regulations and reporting to a supervisor within the Parks and Recreation department.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Mows and trims grass on athletic fields regularly.
- Lines fields for different sports using appropriate markings.
- Removes debris like leaves, branches, and trash from playing surfaces.
- Repairs minor field damage, including divots and uneven areas.
- Installs, removes, and maintains sports equipment like goals, nets, bases, and foul poles.
- Inspects and reports any damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness of dugouts, bleachers, and surrounding areas.
- Performs minor repairs on park facilities related to athletic fields.
- Adheres to safety protocols when operating machinery and handling chemicals.
- Reports potential hazards or safety concerns.
- Follows established guidelines for field maintenance and usage.
- Performs heavy manual labor including lifting, pushing, pulling, and bending for extended periods.
- Operates lawn mowers, trimmers, field marking machines, irrigation systems, and other groundskeeping equipment.
- Performs minor repairs for field surfaces and sports equipment.
- Maintains consistent field conditions and identify areas needing attention.
- Follows instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members.
- Works primarily outdoors, exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Occasionally works weekends and holidays depending on scheduling needs.
- Maintains restrooms and keeping restrooms stocked.
- Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
REQUIRES high school graduation OR 6 months of experience in general labor. May be required to possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
