    California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire region of Southern California.     JOB SUMMARY

    The full-time Assistant/Associate/Full Professor is responsible for teaching, course development, and student mentorship for the MSPA program. The successful candidate must share in the mission of CSUSB and the MSPA program, as well as be a strong advocate for the PA profession. The faculty member is also actively involved in multiple facets of the program, including accreditation, assessment, admissions, and programmatic review. The selected candidate will join the team as a tenure track, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (rank commensurate to experience).

    The Assistant/Associate/Full Professor reports directly to the Program Director and works collaboratively with the Faculty Director of Didactic Education, Faculty Director of Clinical Education, other PA Program faculty, and PA program staff to ensure the program is in full compliance with ARC-PA Standards .

    TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

    Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
    • Provide teaching and instruction in areas of clinical expertise using active learning methods.
    • Coordinate curriculum (i.e., Course Director) within specified courses.
    • Evaluate student performance and provide remedial instruction/reassessment as needed.
    • Counsel and mentor students related to academic and professional development.
    • Implement student academic progression, retention, and completion strategies.
    • Assist the Faculty Director of Didactic/Clinical Education with the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of the curriculum, which includes ensuring full compliance with ARC-PA Standards .
    • Support the program’s efforts to obtain and maintain accreditation by contributing to initial and ongoing accreditation activities by serving as a content expert for curricular and position-focused areas.
    • Contribute to programs and initiatives designed to track and ensure the academic and personal success of MSPA program students.
    • Collaborate with the Program Director and MSPA program faculty to perform programmatic evaluation.
    • Develop, review, and revise as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program.
    • Participate in the MSPA program’s admissions process, including recruitment, application review, interviews, and applicant selection for admission.
    • Assist with evaluating and collaborating with third-party vendors for equipment, software, and/or services needed to enhance the applicant and/or student experience.
    • Assist clinical site development and ongoing clinical site monitoring to ensure the quality and sufficiency of SCPEs (as needed).
    • Assist with the recruitment and onboarding of instructional faculty (as needed).
    • Engage in ongoing faculty development, including continued clinical practice and/or educational programs related to clinical medicine or PA education.
    • Work collaboratively with academic programs at CSUSB and partner institutions.
    • Serve as an active member of MSPA program committees and relevant CSUSB committees.
    • Engage in active service and scholarship as defined by the faculty workload policy.
    • Perform other duties as determined by the Program Director.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    The successful candidate must be or possess the following:

    Physician assistant (PA) candidates must be or have:
    • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited program.
    • Minimum of three years of clinical practice and/or full-time teaching experience as a Physician Assistant.

    Physician (i.e., M.D. and D.O.) candidates must have:
    • Medical degree from an LCME- or AOA-accredited institution.
    • Current licensure in the state of California as an allopathic (M.D.) or osteopathic (D.O.) physician.
    • Minimum of three years of experience working in a clinical setting as a licensed Physician.
    • Current knowledge of clinical practice standards.

    Non-PA and non-physician candidates must have:
    • Terminal or doctoral degree in a related field (e.g., PharmD, DHSc, PhD, EdD) from an accredited institution.
    • Current certification by national board (if actively practicing and applicable to profession).
    • Current licensure in the state of California (if actively practicing and applicable to profession).
    • Equivalent of at least three years of full-time clinical experience (if applicable to profession) or higher education experience at the time of appointment.

    • Excellent teaching skills, including the ability to engage and mentor students.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team and collaboratively with other departments.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced organization with competing priorities and distractions.
    • Strong critical thinking, analytical, research, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze and present complex issues to diverse individuals and groups.
    • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
    • Ability to use high-level discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality in handling problems of a sensitive nature and security of confidential records.
    • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal employment and education laws and regulations.
    • Working knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment and technology including, but not limited to, desktop computer, laptop, copier, fax machine, scanner, and printer.
    • Demonstrated proficiency and ability to effectively use common computer and technology programs and related computer software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, etc.) in the course of assigned duties.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    The following qualifications will also be considered when reviewing applications. However, the qualifications below are not required in order to apply.
    • Prior teaching experience in a PA program (or the equivalent).
    • Doctoral degree in a related field (e.g., DMSc, DHSc, PhD, EdD, M.D., D.O.).
    • Additional years of clinical practice and/or full-time teaching experience in a PA program (or the equivalent) beyond the requirements listed in the “Education and Experience” section.
    • Current certification or emeritus status through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
    • PA licensure (or eligibility for licensure) in the state of California.
    • Prior experience with accreditation and/or curriculum development within a PA program (or the equivalent).
    • Ability to incorporate active learning and utilize current educational technology into teaching.
    • Prior experience working within a diverse campus community.

    ABOUT THE PROGRAM

    California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is developing a Master of Science in Physician Assistant (MSPA) program to help meet the current and future healthcare needs of the region and state. The MSPA program is projected to start in 2025 pending accreditation. To date, CSUSB has received over $18 million in funding to support the development of this exciting new program and its facilities. The program will make a lasting impact on increasing access to quality care through an innovative curriculum, involvement in the community, and strategic healthcare partnerships.     Accreditation Status

    California State University - San Bernardino has applied for Accreditation - Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). California State University - San Bernardino anticipates matriculating its first class in August 2025, pending achieving Accreditation - Provisional status at the June 2025 ARC-PA meeting.

    Accreditation - Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students. In the event the program does not earn accreditation-provisional status, students will not matriculate, and admissions deposits will be refunded. The California State University - San Bernardino is fully accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

    The MSPA degree has been fully approved by the CSU Board of Trustees and Chancellor’s Office.

    Salary is commensurate with experience. Anticipated hiring range is $120,000 to $140,000 annually.

    Assistant Professor 12 month (Range 3) - $7,127 - $15,211

    Associate Professor 12 month (Range 4) - $7,830 - $16,697

    Professor 12 month (Range 5) - $9,883 - $17,490
