    DESCRIPTION

    The Public Works Department is now recruiting for the position of Clerk Typist III. This recruitment is anticipated to close on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11:59 PM OR when 100 applications are received, whichever occurs first.

    The Department of Public Works is seeking a Clerk Typist III-Unclassified to p rovide direct clerical support for the Division Officer and technical staff.

    THE DEPARTMENT

    The mission of the Department of Public Works is “to maintain and enhance the City’s infrastructure and environment for the benefit of the public.” The Department’s core services are focused on providing for and maintaining safe and efficient infrastructure for the community, providing for sustainable environmental protection including water quality and waste collection and diversion, and safely and efficiently designing, constructing, delivering, protecting, and maintaining services for public facilities and public rights-of-way. The Department has six bureaus: Business Operations, Engineering, Environmental Services, Project Management, Public Service, and Transportation Project Management. The Department has over 580 budgeted positions with an annual operating budget of $250 million and an annual capital improvement program budget of $150 million.     EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Assists with scheduling and organizing meetings, training, and travel arrangements for various activities, as well as managing the Division Officer's calendar;
    • Maintains and produces various types of reports and logs;
    • Establishes, develops, and maintains filing systems for records and forms;
    • Assists with editing letters, spreadsheets, Council Letters, and Council Memos;
    • Manages copier supplies and maintenance requests, office supply orders, and shredder bin removal;
      • Acts as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies;


    • Assists with clerical/administrative duties to support the Bureau;


    • Assists with research, reports and other items using a Project Management system;


    • Open, create and manage technology requests tickets;


    • Assists with event coordination, including purchasing supplies, setting up, and breaking down of event spaces;


    • Assists with routing documents to Executive Management and the City Manager's Office for review and approval and

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.


    REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

    • Ability to type neatly and accurately at a net speed of 40 words per minute.
    • Ability to file in alphabetical and numerical order.
    • Ability to make simple mathematical computations.
    • Ability to correct errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and the public.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Two years of paid (full-time equivalent) progressively responsible clerical experience;
    • A valid California Class C Driver's License.

    • Exceptional verbal, written, and customer service skills, including the ability to maintain confidentiality;
    • Ability to complete assignments independently, accurately, and on time;
    • Excellent planning and time management skills;
    • Flexible and adaptable with respect to changing priorities;
    • Thorough knowledge of office procedures;
    • Exceptional work habits, including punctuality and attendance;
    • Proficient in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and English language skills;
    • Skilled in a wide range of software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook, and database programs such as Access.
