    The team member we are searching for:
    We are pursuing qualified candidates to fill Payroll Clerk II positions within the County of Los Angeles. The position has full responsibility for or processes the payroll for a segment of a complex County departmental or Health Services payroll operation; or performs the more difficult and specialized payroll assignments.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Resolves customer (e.g., internal, and external stakeholders, including supervisors, assistant supervisors, coworkers, employees, Department of Auditor-Controller, Department of Human Resources, Chief Executive Office, County Counsel) problems and/or complaints
    • Analyzes qualitative and quantitative information
    • Files and/or stores materials
    • Performs mathematical calculations
    • Prepares a variety of documents
    • Operates various office machines and/or equipment
    • Distributes payroll documents
    • Performs in a lead capacity in a payroll section

    Requirements

    Requirements to Qualify:
    OPTION I: One (1) year of experience in a central payroll office of a Los Angeles County department at the level of Payroll Clerk I*, or higher.

    OPTION II: Two (2) years of experience in Los Angeles County service at the level of Senior Clerk,** performing the full-time timekeeping duties of reviewing and recording eHR/CWTAPPS payroll documents or time records.

    OPTION III: Three (3) years of experience at the level of Senior Clerk** performing in a full-time payroll and timekeeping capacity, including computing, recording, and processing payroll documents and time records.

    OPTION IV: Possession of a current and valid Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certificate issued by the American Payroll Association/Certification Board of PayrollOrg and one year of full-time post-certification experience in a payroll and timekeeping capacity computing, recording, and processing payroll documents and time records.
    If you have a current and valid Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certificate issued by the American Payroll Association/Certification Board of PayrollOrg, you must attach a legible copy of your Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certificate to your application at the time of filing. if you are unable to attach the required document when submitting your application, you must email it to szhang@hr.lacounty.gov within seven (7) calendar days from the last day of filing. Failure to submit the certificate by the stated deadline may result in your application being disqualified from further consideration. We do not accept password-protected documents. Ensure the document is unlocked before attaching it to your application or sending it to the analyst.

    Withhold information:
    No withhold will be allowed. Required experience and education must be fully met and submitted by the last day of filing, and clearly indicated on the application.

    Endorsement of County Qualifications:
    If you performed work that differs from the duties described in your class specification and believe you qualify for this opportunity, please provide verification via official documentation of additional responsibility bonus, out-of-class bonus, temporary assignment bonus or reclassification study with CEO Classification within 7 calendar days from the last day of filing. Employees do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held a position that regularly performs functions in alignment with the requirements.

    Physical class:
    II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    Special requirement information:
    *Experience at the level of Payroll Clerk I in the County of Los Angeles is defined as processing the payroll for a segment of a County department OR Health Services payroll operation.

    **Experience at the level of Senior Clerk is defined as experience performing specialized clerical duties in timekeeping or payroll with ongoing responsibility for projects, inquiries, or problems. This requires knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and other guidelines relating to completing assignments in payroll processing.

    Positions equivalent to the level of Senior Clerk include but may not be limited to Senior Typist Clerk ; Senior Typist Clerk, LACERA ; Sheriff Station Clerk II ; Account Clerk II ; Tax Services Clerk I ; Program Aid I, CEO .

    Examination content:
    This examination will consist of a multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted 100%, measuring:

    You must meet the requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.

    MULTIPLE-CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.
    Transfer of test components:
    If you recently took identical components for other exams, the test responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.

    Test Preparation
    We provide study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test, we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.

    Veteran's Credit:
    If you served in the military and were honorably discharged, you may qualify for Veterans' Credit. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to szhang@hr.lacounty.gov as early as possible for prompt and smooth processing.

    Eligibility and Vacancy Information:
    Candidates who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies throughout Los Angeles County.
