    The City of Newport Beach seeks a motivated individual to join the IT Department as a full-time IT Analyst (GIS). This position’s key duties are to plan and communicate specific work tasks for database creation and management, application development, and ongoing maintenance; review current data and GIS processing techniques and update as needed; maintain the data integrity and accuracy of the City’s spatial information; edit, analyze, and perform QA/QC tasks utilizing GIS software.

    About Geographic Information Systems (GIS):

    • Designs and maintains the enterprise GIS database, layers and web-based applications;

    • Configures and maintains interactive maps, forms and reports; provides map exhibits, geoprocessing andgeospatial analysis;

    • Designs and produces cartographic products; prepares maps and exhibits for presentations;

    • Provides system support for field data collection processes, which include GPS and drone technology

    SCHEDULE:
    • This position may work a 5/40, 9/80, or 4/10 schedule.

    SELECTION COMPONENTS:
    • Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review date of May 22, 2025 .     RETIREMENT:

    The City offers an excellent benefits package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement Systems (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 11.5% of pay towards the retirement benefit.

    Experience & Education and License/Certificate

    A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience: Depending on area of assignment, three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in: application development, design & testing, web-based applications and database integration, computer systems analysis, data analysis and reporting; or hardware and software support, with at least one year of experience in administering Microsoft Server, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Active Directory, Security and LAN/WAN software and hardware; or experience designing, implementing and maintaining GIS databases, surveying principles, cartography and map layer design.

    Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in management information systems, computer science, or a related field.

    License or Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

    The City of Newport Beach was incorporated September 1, 1906 and the current City Charter was adopted in 1954. The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The Council consists of the Mayor and six other members and is responsible for policy-making, passing local ordinances, adopting the budget, appointing committees and hiring the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk. The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City, and for appointing heads of departments.
