    Austin Energy (AE) seeks an IT Systems Administrator Sr. that will architect and integrate highly complex, highly reliable systems, under minimal supervision, using expert skills and current knowledge of information system technologies while being able to contribute to daily operations, maintenance & installations to support critical department-based systems.

    The primary duties of the position:
    • Implement, configure, manage, administer, maintain and monitor software and hardware for entire Department affecting Systems. Windows, AIX & Linux administration.
    • Research, Test, evaluate, and make recommendations for new software and hardware technology.
    • Troubleshoot advanced systems/topologies/networks/storage and support critical customers in a utility environment using a variety of monitoring tools.

    VETERAN INTERVIEW PREFERENCE :

    CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK :
    This position requires a criminal background investigation and North American Electric Reliability Corporation ( NERC ) clearance.

    FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT :
    This position is classified as EXEMPT and may require to work additional hours outside of the normal schedule to include nights, weekends, and /or holidays.

    DRIVING REQUIREMENT :
    This position requires a valid Class C Texas driver’s license or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    WORK SCHEDULE :
    This position has been designated as a Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a city-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.
    Pay Range
    $37.14 - $47.35 per hour.

    Hours
    Work Schedule:
    • Monday - Friday
    • 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • Additional work hours may be required to support the 24-hour Utility operations, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, inclement weather and emergency closures.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Communication and collaboration with positive outcomes with both IT employees and customers.
    • Recent experience with well managed practices for distributed Windows, AIX & Linux systems, centralized authentication and syslog management.
    • Recent experience with Splunk.
    • Experience with Application Monitoring tools.
    • Experience understanding complex Layer2/3 networks and emerging network technologies.
    • Experience understanding IT integrated hyperconverged infrastructure technologies.
    • Experience working in a public, government or similarly regulated organization.


    Other:
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

    Performs advanced focused architecting, optimizing, implementing, configuring, managing, administering, troubleshooting, maintaining and monitoring one or more of the following: infrastructure software, hardware, systems/applications, middleware, servers/storage, and IP-based telecommunications Establishes and implements IT policies, governance, standards, and security Makes independent decisions for procurement of technical solutions in their focus area Creates, documents, publishes, and/or performs maintenance procedures and ensures all installations are in accordance with COA’s specifications and IT standards/governance Assists in planning, designing, procuring and delivering software and hardware purchases. Ensures appropriate product specifications Provides costs analysis Installs new specific software releases and/or upgrades including researching, testing and implementing new technology Participates in disaster recovery planning and testing, including fault tolerance and detailed disaster recovery plan maintenance Communicates and interfaces with members of the IT, vendor and user communities.
