    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Real Property Management Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Senior Sign Maker position. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for directing the work of an assistant or small crew. The incumbent also performs the full range of skilled work, including design, fabrication and installation of a variety of signs made from various materials to inform and direct the public around Clark County facilities. This position will be a part of the trades shop and will report to an Assistant Maintenance & Operations Supervisor.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of full-time experience in the fabrication, repair, and installation of signs AND two (2) years of professional experience in designing with vector graphics software for use with plotters and wide-format printers. Lead experience desired. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

    Working Conditions: Work with exposure to potentially hazardous sign making substances and solvents.

    Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment.

    Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

    Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Provides lead direction, training and work review to an assistant or a small crew; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work.
    • Provides input into selection, evaluation, disciplinary and other personnel matters; may sign evaluation forms and counsel employees as required.
    • Creates print-ready artwork using vector graphics software for use with large format printers and laser engravers.
    • Performs digital pre-press for client files.
    • Consults with in-house clients to determine client requirements for the creation, fabrication and installation of training materials, visual aids, signage, maps, and other graphic representations.
    • Monitors advances in the field of signage and recommends hardware, software and materials purchases as appropriate.
    • Understands and applies signage and design fundamentals while following Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signage guidelines and regulations.
    • Performs skilled work in the preparation, maintenance, repair, and installation of different types of signs on streets, buildings, fixtures, elevators, stairways, parking facilities, vehicles, and perimeter fences.
    • Prepares, modifies, and relocates signs as specified by work order.
    • Engraves desk name plates and special awards.
    • Maintains fleet decals.
    • Estimates materials, parts, tools, and equipment needed for work assignments.
    • Orders and picks-up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate.
    • Maintains an inventory of materials and supplies.
    • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
    • Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
    • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives County vehicles to work sites, transports materials and assistants to work sites; works from a boom lift, scissor lift, forklift or ladder.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade test equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment and to drive to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work for aerial equipment for extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
