    Job Summary

The Grand Prairie Public Library System is seeking a creative, community-minded Library Programmer to develop and deliver engaging programs for adults, coordinate outreach initiatives for all ages through our Mobile Libraries, and support major library events across the system. This dynamic role bridges in-house programming with community engagement, bringing library services beyond our walls while enhancing lifelong learning opportunities for adults.

The ideal candidate is passionate about public service, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is eager to design programs that inspire, educate, and connect diverse audiences.

This position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends frequently, especially to accommodate adult programs held outside of typical business hours and outreach events that take place in the community.

    Essential Job Functions

    Key Responsibilities:

    Adult Programming:
    • Plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of adult programs, workshops, and events that reflect community interests, including but not limited to educational series, cultural programs, technology classes, book discussions, and creative arts.
    • Evaluate program success through attendance tracking, feedback, and data analysis to ensure continuous improvement.
    • Develop partnerships with local organizations, speakers, and performers to enhance program offerings.

    Mobile Library & Outreach Services:
    • Coordinate and deliver outreach programs utilizing the library’s Mobile Libraries, focusing on expanding access to underserved areas and populations.
    • Provide dynamic programming for all ages during outreach events-including storytimes for young children, crafts and STEM activities for families, and interactive or educational content for teens and adults.
    • Represent the library at community events, fostering relationships that promote library services and resources.
    • Collaborate with the Outreach team to identify community needs and schedule regular Mobile Library stops and special outreach initiatives.

    System-Wide Program Support:
    • Actively participate in planning and executing large-scale library events (e.g., Summer Reading Club, Dino Fest, Winter Wonderland) by contributing ideas, logistics support, and hands-on assistance.
    • Collaborate with fellow programmers across age groups (children, teens, families) to ensure cohesive and inclusive programming.
    • Support marketing efforts by providing program details, engaging with patrons, and promoting events through outreach.

    General Duties:
    • Demonstrate comfort and adaptability in creating and leading programs for diverse age groups, including children’s storytimes, teen activities, and adult workshops.
    • Stay informed on current trends in adult services, outreach, and public programming.
    • Ensure programs align with library goals, policies, and community engagement strategies.
    • Provide excellent customer service to patrons of all ages.
    • Perform other duties as assigned, including regular evening and weekend work.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in library science, education, communications, or a related field preferred, but relevant experience will be strongly considered in lieu of a degree.
    • Experience in libraries, public programming, community outreach, or event coordination.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Creative thinking with a passion for community engagement and lifelong learning.
    • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency with basic technology and digital presentation tools.
    • Valid Texas driver’s license

    Additional Information

    Work Environment & Schedule:
    • Work will be split between in-library programming and Mobile Library programming.
    • This position requires regular evening and weekend availability to best serve adult audiences and community needs.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. for event setup and mobile operations.
