    The Recreation & Senior Services Department is currently looking for one full-time Recreation Supervisor to join the Youth & Adult Sports Programs team. This position coordinates the city-staffed after-school programs, preschool programs, summer day camps, and Mayor’s Youth Council. This position also oversees the city’s playgrounds. The selected candidate must be able to perform high level staff coordination and project management.

    Schedule:
    This position is able to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 5/40, 9/80, or 4/10).

    Selection Components:

    Retirement:

    The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement Systems (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 11.5% of pay towards the retirement benefit.

    Experience & Education and License/Certificate

    A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience: Three years of experience developing programs and activities OR two years working directly with a public recreation agency or program. Two years experience supervising staff is also required.

    Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation administration, human services and development, public administration, natural sciences, or a related field.

    License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

    The City of Newport Beach is located in the coastal center of Orange County, with Los Angeles County to the north and San Diego County to the south.     The City of Newport Beach was incorporated September 1, 1906 and the current City Charter was adopted in 1954. The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Its seven City Council Members are elected by district, but are voted on by the population as a whole. They serve four-year terms. The Council consists of the Mayor and six other members and is responsible for policy-making, passing local ordinances, adopting the budget, appointing committees and hiring the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk. The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City, and for appointing heads of departments.
