    Minimum Qualifications
    Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field and three (3) years of supervisory or management experience in fleet program area.
    One year of experience may substitute for one year of education up to a maximum of four (4) years.

    Licenses or Certifications:
    Class “C” Driver’s License.

    Physical Requirements:
    May include the following:
    Heavy. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.

    The Fleet Program Manager in Fleet Make Ready is an onsite position that will manage vehicle in-processing, from receipt of new units to final readiness for deployment and forecast, develop, and manage fiscal budgets for equipment, labor, and facility operations with a strong focus on maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.

    A competency assessment (s) may be required to verify your skill set.
    More than one interview round may be required.

    Driving Requirement:
    This position requires a Valid Texas Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    • Experience in fleet management;
    • Experience in general automotive/diesel repair including auto body and collision repair;
    • Experience with after-market equipment installations, particularly emergency lights, sirens, hydraulics, and other specialty components;
    • Experience in vehicle fleet management policy & procedure development and implementation;
    • Certified by NAFA Fleet Management Association as Certified Automotive Fleet Supervisor ( CAFS ) or Certified Automotive Fleet Manager ( CAFM );
    • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of vehicle specifications, quality control processes, and inspection standards to ensure new fleet vehicles meet all required specifications;
    • In-depth understanding of municipal, state, and federal regulations relevant to fleet operations and vehicle up-fitting;
    • Experience in using software applications to problem solve and perform data analysis;
    • Strong oral and written communication skills;
    • Proficiency in using computers and related software applications.


    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    1.
    Establishes fleet program standards, methods, policies and procedures by studying business requirements, obtaining appropriate consultations, and determining equipment, facility, staffing, and budget needs.
    2. Develops business plan by reviewing department needs, establishing appropriate procedures and timelines of request completion, and estimating costs of good required to complete request.
    3. Establishes priorities, scheduling activities and employees, confers with suppliers to obtain parts, monitors progress and revises schedules and resolves problems as they arise.
    4. Manages equipment and facilities by establishing maintenance procedures, monitoring of contracts, maintaining necessary equipment requirements, and evaluation of new equipment and techniques.
    5. Responsible for establishment of budgetary requirements, purchasing, monitoring of daily reports and logs, approving expenditures, compiling and analyzing costs and initiating corrective measures.
    6. Maintains professional and technical knowledge of assigned program by attending training classes, reviewing professional publications, and serve on committees or boards.

    Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

    Knowledge of established fleet program (fuels, hydraulic, tire, other)
    Knowledge of supervisory or management techniques

    Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
    Skill in using software applications to perform data analysis and problem solving.
    Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
    Ability to train personnel in various techniques, safety practices, policies, and procedures, and other operational requirements
    Ability to analyze and resolve irregular events.

    City Government
