    Vacation & Sick Leave

    At the City of Buckeye, we understand the vital role that vacation time plays in supporting the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our employees. Vacation and sick leave accruals begin on the first day of employment and may be used upon accrual. Additionally, employees receive credit towards vacation leave accruals for years of service with other public sector retirement systems nationwide (not including Federal service).

    Holidays

    The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

    Retirement
    This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12.27%, per fiscal year.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    GENERAL PURPOSE: Under minimum supervision, the Continuous Improvement (CI) Coordinator will apply in-depth knowledge, skills and abilities of continuous improvement in a public sector environment. The successful candidate will help drive the Lean transformation within the city with a focus on embedding Lean philosophy where people are engaged to improve processes continuously. Support and guide all teams, staff and leaders by coaching them in developing and practicing sound problem-solving techniques and creating standard business processes. Act as a role model for the Lean way of working and respectfully challenging the status quo.

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

    • Leads Lean events and other activities to promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
    • Facilitates various kaizen workshops, training events and other CI related activities for improvement results that can be leveraged citywide.
    • Conducts the pre and post Kaizen workshop facilitator tasks.
    • Provides guidance, coaching and training to all levels of employees in Lean principles, tools, and techniques to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
    • Works closely with department leaders and their teams to identify and eliminate waste, streamline processes to improve services and efficiency.
    • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop and implement action plans for improving operational efficiency and addressing customer concerns.
    • Works across business practices to remove barriers and streamline processes by understanding internal and external customer requirements.
    • Assists in the resolution of process, equipment, and system issues, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
    • Performs process optimizations and capacity analyses.
    • Assists in the identification and implementation of the best practice for each operation or process with input from employees and leaders.
    • Develops and deploys sustainable standard leadership and lean tools throughout organization, including Daily Management, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping, Transactional Process Improvement, Visual Management and A3 thinking.
    • Assists in building and sustaining internal expertise to support long-term operational improvements.
    • Recommends and makes enhancements or improvements to CI systems and processes to be more adaptable to all employees in solving problems or improving effectiveness.
    • Creates event debrief and reports success with executive and senior leadership teams.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications & Position Requirements

    Education and Experience: Education and experience requirements; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Minimum:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in leading and/or applying Lean Six Sigma principles, tools and techniques including 3+ years of experience in Kaizen facilitation, OR
    Preferred:
    • Green Belt Lean Six Sigma certified, with at least 5 years of experience in leading and/or applying Lean Six Sigma principles, tools and techniques including 3+ years of experience in Kaizen facilitation, OR
    • At least 7 years of experience in leading and/or applying Lean Six Sigma principles, tools and techniques including 5+ years of experience in Kaizen facilitation
    • Proficient with Envisio or any mapping tool, SharePoint, Lean Management System

    Desired:
    • Green Belt Lean Six Sigma Certification

    Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:
    • City policies and procedures
    • Lean principles, tools and techniques (PDCA/DMAIC, A3, Kaizen, Kanban, Gemba, etc.)
    • Applicable computer software programs: Microsoft Office Suite, CI Management System

    Skill in:
    • Facilitating Kaizen workshops and other CI events
    • Problem-solving with strong attention to detail
    • Team building

    Ability to:
    • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work
    • Teach/mentor/coach individuals or teams
    • Apply critical thought processes to develop, recommend and implement solutions and projects that address team objectives
    • Effectively plan and carry out tasks independently as well as in a team environment
    • Influence and motivate others

    12 Month Goals:
    • Learn and demonstrate an understanding of the citywide Mission, Vision, Values.
    • Successfully facilitate at least three kaizen workshops, ensuring that they are monitored to completion and within scope.
    • Become acquainted with all department leadership and administrative/management staff to forge positive working relationships. Success will be demonstrated by completion of personal introductions.
