    The Position

    Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This position is located within the Traffic Operations Division, Carson City. The incumbent will develop: signals, lighting and ITS plans, specification and estimates; coordinate signal, lighting, and ITS projects with other divisions and outside agencies; follow departmental procedures for compliance with federal and state regulations and resolution of design conflicts; review plans, specification and estimates for compliance with departmental standards; assist, review, modify and maintain signal, lighting, and ITS standards plans and specifications; and support the Traffic Operations Division with other duties, special projects and new programs as required. This recruitment is an underfill for a Staff 2, Associate Engineering position. Incumbents may progress to the Staff 2, Associate Engineer level upon meeting the minimum qualifications for that class, with successful performance, and with the approval of the appointing authority.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
