Animal License Checker I. The position strives to ensure the health and safety of dogs in San Bernardino County by locating unlicensed and unvaccinated dogs and ensuring that pet owners comply with State licensing and vaccination provisions.
Essential job functions include:
- Contacting pet owners by canvassing house-to-house to locate unlicensed and unvaccinated dogs; issue warnings to potential violators, and follow up to ensure compliance with regulations; issue citations to violators, file complaints, and testify in court ,as necessary.
- Participating in licensing and vaccination clinics by checking dog vaccinations, calculating and collecting fees, issuing license receipts and tags, and record keeping.
- Explaining animal regulations, rules, policies, and procedures to residents.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT - Travel/License: All positions are assigned to work in San Bernardino, but travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance are required and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Physical: Must be able to perform house-to-house canvass of neighborhoods, which entails walking and standing for long periods of time. Must be able to work outdoors.
- Weather: Applicants must be able to perform duties in inclement weather.
- Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.
Minimum RequirementsMust be willing and available to work on weekends. Driver License: Applicants must possess and maintain a current, valid California Class C driver license and a clean driving record.
