Essential Job Functions- Produces abstracts of judgment, executive notices, and similar documentation requiring high accuracy or independent judgment in selecting materials.
- Produces sophisticated charts, forms, statistical, and similar documents from rough drafts, requiring skill in arranging tabular material, setting up forms, and utmost typing accuracy.
- Processes documents according to a specified and technical procedure for such purposes as formulating property descriptions and recording and indexing court papers, transcripts, and legal processes.
- Checks documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with legal and other requirements.
- Responds to inquiries and offers information to the Public regarding regulations and procedures; prepares and files legal forms, applications, and permit requests; acts as a special receptionist or counter clerk.
- Keeps records requiring particular knowledge, discrimination, and judgment in the selection, compilation, or computation of data to be included, such as cost data records and distribution and control ledger, which can be posted without extensive knowledge of bookkeeping principles.
- Maintains clerical controls where work is divided among personnel performing separate parts of an entire operation.
- Searches records and files for data where judgment and discrimination are required in selecting or abstracting material.
- Answers correspondence requiring data selection vital in formulating the reply, referring unusual cases to a supervisor's approval.
- Estimates amounts due and collects fees.
- Exercises minor supervision over the work of others, as needed.
- Compares or segregates documents where particular knowledge of the function and more than a routine check for accuracy are involved, as in auditing warrants or purchase orders.
- Operates office machines, such as calculators incidental to the performance of other duties.
- Routinely accesses office equipment, such as video display terminals, word processors, or personal computers to input data, perform computations, or produce documents, not requiring the formatting or programming of such equipment, as needed.

Requirements REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY : OPTION 1: Six (6) months of office clerical experience, involving typewriting, in the service of the County of Los Angeles
or in districts under the jurisdiction of the County of Los Angeles.
OROPTION 2: One (1) year of office clerical experience, involving typewriting, outside the service of the County of Los Angeles.
OR OPTION 3: A certificate or Associate of Arts degree in clerical procedures or office administration from an accredited college or university.*

TYPING SKILL REQUIREMENT :This exam requires a typing proficiency of 40 net words per minute (wpm).
You may not need to take a typing test if you meet any of the following: Current or former County employees who have held a typing position that required the necessary wpm.
Applicants who have already taken and passed the County's typing performance test (administered by the Department of Human Resources) at the required wpm. If your passing score is already on file, it will be transferred automatically-no need to retest.
Applicants who have met the typing requirement in another Los Angeles County department must attach a copy of their typing certificate to their online application or send it to
DCFSExams@dcfs.lacounty.gov via email within seven (7) calendar days from the end of the filing period.
PHYSICAL CLASS :Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

EXAMINATION CONTENT :This examination will consist of two (2) test components:
Part I: A multiple choice and/or simulation assessment, weighted at 100%, assessing:
•General Problem-Solving Skills
•Customer Focus
•Learning Potential
•Responsibility
Only those candidates that achieve a passing score of 70% or higher in Part I will advance to Part II.
Part II: A qualifying typing performance assessment, not weighted.
Achieving a passing score of 40 net wpm or higher is required.
APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY AND ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE ON EACH TEST COMPONENT IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST. EXAM REVIEW :MULTIPLE-CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.
TEST SCORES CANNOT BE PROVIDED OVER THE TELEPHONE.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION :Candidates who pass the assessments are placed on the Eligible List in the order of their score group for twelve (12) months.
SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION :Per TITLE 5 - PERSONNEL, APPENDIX 1 (Civil Service Rule 11.03) of the Los Angeles County Code, selective certification may be used for some positions requiring special skills and/or training.
Selective certification registers may be prepared for the following language specialties: AMESLAN, Arabic, Armenian, Cambodian, Cantonese, Farsi, Korean, Lao, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. The Department may also prepare selective certification registers by service areas.
Candidates who wish to have their names placed on a language selective certification register must indicate their foreign language on the application and pass a qualifying language proficiency test on their ability to speak, read, and write English and the specialty language.
