Description: The Wildland Fire Community Engagement Program Supervisor is a new position and part of the recently approved Wildland Fire Management Program with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. This is a supervisory position and a key member of the Wildland Fire Management Program leadership team. The Wildland Fire Community Engagement Program Supervisor is responsible for the development and oversight of a county-wide wildfire preparedness program, which is comprised of wildfire education and outreach materials and programs; the county wildfire home assessment program; and support and management of wildfire risk mitigation grants. All three program areas require working with stakeholders to develop and manage programs that help standardized program content and facilitate effective implementation across all county jurisdictions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the citizens of Jefferson County have the information and access to programs to be prepared for wildfire events and working with external partners (primarily Fire Protection Districts) to deliver standardized program content. This is an in-person (not remote) salaried position that will work a 4-10 schedule (Monday-Thursday) but also is expected to be available outside the normal work week for incident support as needed.Professional development training and pursuit of NWCG qualifications will be encouraged, but dependent on funding and program priorities.

- Develops, coordinates, and manages standardized wildland fire education and outreach programs and materials in support of agency, partner, and citizen efforts to mitigate wildfire risk. Includes maintaining an inventory of outreach and education materials and facilitating the distribution of materials.
- Develops and manages a county-wide comprehensive fire home assessment and defensible space program, including coordination, leadership and support to the fire protection districts and other fire mitigation partners.
- Develops and manages a county-wide fire mitigation micro-grant mitigation program, as funding allows, for home and business owners conducting risk mitigation and structure ignition zone protection work. This includes developing program parameters for wildland fire mitigation and education grant writing and assisting with budget and reporting.
- Collaborates with Sheriff’s Office and County Public Affairs to provide wildland fire information and content for websites, social media and public facing media campaigns. Supports and provides updates to the counties phone-based Wildland Fire Hotline. Serves as the primary liaison between the Emergency Services Section Wildland Fire Management Program, Sheriff’s Office and County Public Affairs staff and external partners engaged in wildfire education and outreach programs.
- Provides program leadership and guidance for county efforts related to wildland fire prevention. Coordinates with internal partners, county fire partners, adjacent counties and other agencies on fire prevention messages and efforts to mitigate fire risk throughout the county.
- Represents the county Wildland Fire Management Program at fire risk mitigation related public meetings, partnerships groups and for fire incident activities.
- Supervises staff in area of responsibility. Administers and makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action. Conducts performance evaluations and communicates short- and long-term goals and objectives. Submits personnel records and reports as required by the county. Assists and advises subordinates as necessary, resolves problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implements them as directed.

The incumbent must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. as necessary.
Three years of prior experience in wildland fire or other all-hazard mitigation, education or outreach program work is required. Experience in web design and content creation, grant writing and administration.
Required: National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (NWCG):
Within 3 years of hire: PIO3
Preferred: NWCG: FFT2, PIOC, PETM
Work may include all hazard and emergency response activities.
