    The Job

    San Bernardino Countyis recruiting for Accountant/Auditor Trainees who work under the supervision of higher-level accountants or auditors while developing the required knowledge and skills to independently perform journey-level accounting or auditing duties. Essential duties include preparing and analyzing accounting and financial statements, making adjusting entries in several subsystems of a departmental accounting system, and performing specialized accounting functions such as tax or cost accounting; performs compliance and operational audits; prepares audit reports with findings and recommendations .

    The eligible list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill vacancies throughout the County as well as in the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFD) and Special Districts Department. Applicants will be asked to indicate their availability and preference for referral to the different agencies in the Supplemental Questionnaire.

    The SBCFD and Special Districts Department are separate entities from San Bernardino County, and as such, compensation and benefits for their positions are set forth in a different compensation plan. The salary for County Fire and Special Districts Accountant II (Special Districts) is $60,694 - $87,880 annually (range 32); for additional details, refer to the Fire Auxiliary Services Unit MOU and Benefits Summary .

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. Incumbents will be required to make provision for transportation. At time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.

    Promotion: Accountant/Auditor Trainee is the trainee level within the accounting series; incumbents are eligible for promotion to Accountant/Auditor ( $61,131 - $83,990 Annually ) upon successful completion of a training program and receipt of a satisfactory work performance evaluation. Incumbents must promote within 24 months or be terminated .

    * Salary increases contingent upon Property Related Revenue and/or statewide Realignment Sales Tax Collections performance.

    Minimum Requirements

    CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENT:

    EDUCATION
    Must possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics OR a bachelor's degree in another field which must include 30 semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in accounting . (Transcripts with qualifying coursework is required if degree is in another field.)

    **No experience required.**

    EDUCATION
    Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.     Examination Procedure :

    Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to take the online assessment. The assessment will consist of an evaluation of skills and knowledge in the following areas:
