Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator's Office invites applications for the position of
Forensic Autopsy Technician (Extra-Help). Incumbentsprocess and preserve deceased persons, assist pathologists in preparing human bodies for and in conducting autopsies; maintain facilities and equipment in a sanitary, disinfected manner; and perform related work as required.
Note: Temporary (extra-help) employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked, are not entitled to benefits, do not obtain permanent status and serve at the will of the department head. Although the current vacancies are extra-help, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill permanent positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
As a condition of employment, candidates must undergo and pass a polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analysis examination and personal background investigation. The background investigation includes employment/credit history, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, reference/neighborhood check and personal conduct. Minimum QualificationsApplicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:
OPTION 1 :
- Experience : Six (6) months of full-time, paid work experience in a medical setting.
- Education : Graduation from high school or successful completion of a General Education Development (GED) test indicating high school graduation equivalency. The Education section of your application must be completed to verify the school and your graduation.
- License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license may be required.
OPTION 2 :
- Education : Completion of fifteen (15) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system with at least (1) course in anatomy, physiology, biology, chemistry, forensics, life science, or a closely related field. Copies of your transcripts verifying the required type and units of coursework must be attached to your application.
- License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license may be required.

SELECTION PROCESS: Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
Please Note: - The eligible list for this recruitment may be extended up to 12 months, and may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions.

REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS: Positions in this classification are in MEDICAL GROUP II - Moderate Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require moderate physical effort using arms, legs, back, and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) 10-25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Generally, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved.
