TEMPORARY PRINCIPAL DATA ANALYST

Description

Conducts highly complex analytical work in support of Metro's Chief Safety Office which includes gathering, reviewing, and analyzing information, generating comprehensive reports, and issuing recommendations to Safety and Security leadership to enhance public safety on Metro's transit sys tem.

Examples of Duties

• Evaluates and assesses highly complex information to identify safety enhancements on Metro's transit system
  
• Consolidates information into key components and develops strategic analytical reports
  
• Identifies safety improvements and provides decision makers with the information needed to address security needs
  
• Facilitates information sharing by developing relationships, forming networks, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders
  
• Leads collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to identify new and emerging transit security and safety trends and issues
  
• Leads the research of complex studies related to transit safety and security to identify trends
  
• Generates informational advisories and intelligence bulletins addressing security risks and trends
  
• Formulates recommendations and prepares highly complex reports on various safety, risk, and/or system security subjects and studies utilizing various software
  
• Identifies new data sources to enhance the situational awareness of security incidents, risks, and vulnerabilities
  
• Coordinates with Metro's internal and external partners to consolidate comprehensive information into strategic analytical products to enhance the understanding of threats, gaps, and vulnerabilities
  
• Aids the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure data collection, handling, and storage is consistent with Metro policy and procedures
  
• Provides guidance to other team members

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
  

Experience

• Five years of relevant experience in system security, analytics, safety, risk management, or in a related area
  

Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements

• A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
  

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications (PQs) are used to identify relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as determined by business necessity. These criteria are considered preferred qualifications and are not intended to serve as minimum requirements for the position. PQs will help support selection decisions throughout the recruitment. • Experience communicating confidential data analysis to management and/or executive staff
• Experience analyzing data and forecasting trends, utilizing data processing tools such as Power BI, ArcGIS, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Python
• Experience creating critical analytical concepts to identify or address trends that improve processes, procedures, or budgetary activities to minimize risks or issues
• Experience identifying datasets that are most informative for decision-making
• Experience coordinating multiple tasks and requests with competing deadlines

Essential Knowledge

Knowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)

• Theories and principles of emerging threats on transit systems
  
• Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations including Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations for transit safety
  
• Applicable business software applications
  

Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)

• Analyzing situations, identifying problems, implementing solutions, and evaluating outcomes
  
• Communicating effectively orally and in writing
  
• Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives

Pension Plan- PTSC retirement plan is the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Vesting is five (5) years. Minimum retirement age is 52, based on the 2% at 62 formula.
