The Position
Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.
Incumbents recommend and implement changes to work plans, program performance standards and objectives for providing services, and eligibility requirements as permitted by program regulations and guidelines; and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or a staff consisting of several students, volunteers and/or contract staff.
The Department of Public Safety is seeking to fill a Program Officer 1 located in Carson City. Program Officer 1 will assist in performing administrative work in planning and coordinating the Sex Offender Registry Program. Incumbents will assist in monitoring program operations, compile data and prepare reports of program activities in order to identify problem areas, changes in the method, procedure or operation of the Sex Offender Registry program and recommend solutions to aid management in making policy decisions and in analyzing the program's success. Incumbents conduct training for staff and local law enforcement agencies including how to complete required forms and documentation and the operation of the sex offender database. Writes or revises the Sex Offender Registry procedural manual to ensure staff understands and complies with the rules of operation and regulations. Incumbents will supervise and oversee the Scanning & Archive program within the Sex Offender Registry and will be cross trained in the NCIC program. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of para-professional program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service which required the application of State and/or federal laws, policy and procedures; reviewing documents prepared by others for program compliance determinations; or preparing reports which summarize financial and statistical information; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, some positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A State of Nevada/FBI fingerprint based background check is required as a condition of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
