The City of Chandler Development Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Traffic Engineering Senior Technician. The position is scheduled to Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

Who we are
The City of Chandler Development Services team, consisting of 86 positions, provides sound land use planning strategies, responsible design development standards, and high quality, safety compliant infrastructure in all areas of Development Services, including planning, GIS, building safety, development engineering, telecommunications and utility franchise, City fiber, transportation engineering, and customer service and permits.

Who we are looking for
Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone to perform traffic engineering and traffic control duties to ensure the safety of streets in the City. Typically assigned to one of three main areas of assignment (studies, signing and striping or barricading), but cross-trains for all three areas.

Minimum qualifications
• A High School Diploma or GED supplemented by college or technical training courses in traffic or civil engineering; and
• 4 years of experience in traffic control inspection, plan design and/or review; and
• International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Certification in Work Zone Traffic Control Safety, or approved equivalent, within 6 months of hire or promotion; and
• A valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired qualifications
• Experience conducting field inspections related to traffic control and work zone safety practices.
• Familiarity with Traffic Control Plans (TCPs), including compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and applicable local standards.
• Knowledge of the selection, layout, and staging of temporary traffic control devices for a variety of construction and utility projects.
• Ability to identify and effectively communicate safety and compliance issues observed in the field.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding construction drawings, plans, and specifications.

This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will conduct a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
