Summary of position
The City of Sedona is looking for an enthusiastic, organized, and people-focused leader to serve as our Athletics & Aquatics Supervisor. This position is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to oversee and grow a wide variety of recreational programs that serve the residents and visitors of Sedona. In this role, you'll lead the planning and daily operations of youth and adult sports leagues, summer sports camps, aquatics programs, and open gym activities. You'll also supervise the operations of our community pool, including hiring and training a large team of lifeguards and recreation staff. Excellent communication and leadership skills are key as this position manages a large seasonal team of lifeguards, scorekeepers, referees, volunteer coaches, and more. Your goal will be to provide safe, engaging, and well-run programs that enhance the quality of life for our community.
Minimum qualifications
License or Certifications
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, Certified Youth Sports Administrator certificate (CYSA) within one year of hire.
- Possession of or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid StarGuard Elite Instructor Level 2 or higher certificate within one year of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid lifeguard certificate, CPR and First Aid certificate within six months of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid certified pool operator (CPO) registration or aquatic facility operator (AFO) registration within one year of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Starfish Aquatics Institute Swim Instructor certificate within one year of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Starfish Aquatics Institute Swim Instructor Trainer certificate within two years of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver’s license within two months of hire.
Desired qualifications
- Three years of responsible experience working with recreation and athletic programs
including group activity and staff oversight and leadership. - Three years of responsible leadership experience with aquatic personnel and aquatic facility oversight.
