    • We are looking for a dedicated team member who can securely and efficiently transport business supplies and items throughout Los Angeles County departments while maintaining detailed records and adhering to vehicle safety standards. As a Light Vehicle Driver, you will play a key role in supporting daily operations that keep County services running smoothly.

    Essential Job Functions

    What a Light Vehicle Driver does:
    • Receives, transports, and delivers items internally and externally to fulfill County logistical needs.
    • Loads and unloads items from County vehicles using proper lifting technique.
    • Performs clerical work such as sorting mail and documents, and maintaining accurate records.
    • Performs routine inspections of County vehicles prior to beginning work and upon arrival back to the shop after completing deliveries.
    • Schedules and transports County vehicles for preventative maintenance, services, and repairs.
    • Maintains records of usage, mileage, inspections, services, maintenance, repairs, and other related information of County vehicles using software programs and/or paper/pencil records.
    • Drives County vehicles with a gross weight of up to 26,000 pounds.
    • Transports passengers for County departments to destinations safely for business purposes.

    Withhold information:

    If you performed work that differs from the duties described in your class specification and believe you qualify for this opportunity, please provide verification via official documentation of additional responsibility bonus, out-of-class bonus, temporary assignment bonus or reclassification study with CEO Classification within 7 calendar days from the last day of filing. Employees do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held a position that regularly performs functions in alignment with the requirements.

    Requirements

    Requirements to Qualify:
    Six months of paid driving experience in the performance of pick up, transportation, and delivery of items.
    License:
    A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions. Some positions may require a valid California Class B Driver License or a special endorsement to drive assigned vehicles. Proof of possession of a valid Driver License must be provided at the time of filing.

    Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant’s driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

    Physical class:
    Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    Once we have identified that you meet our requirements, an invitation regarding the following assessment processes will be sent:
    Examination Content:
    This examination will consist of an Evaluation of Training and Experience, weighted 100%, assessing:
    • Experience receiving, transporting, and delivering items to fulfill organizational needs
    • Experience performing routine inspections of work vehicles
    • Experience maintaining records of work vehicles for your organization
    • Experience driving various types of vehicles for work-related purposes, including those with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of at least 10,000 pounds

    Applicants must meet the requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.
    Scores cannot be given over the telephone.

    Test preparation:
    We provide study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test, we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.

    Eligibility and Vacancy Information:
    Candidates who pass the assessment are placed on an eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies as they occur.
