    THE CITY

    Culver City is a Charter City incorporated in 1917, and is a destination filled with outdoor cafes, unique shops, and galleries opening onto pedestrian-friendly boulevards.     THE POSITION

    The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
    Drives to various wastewater, storm water, urban runoff collectionlift station locations and conducts a daily preventive maintenance inspection.Performs corrective maintenance of the wastewater, storm water, urban runoff collection lift stations, including replacement of pump packing, cleaning of dry and wet wells, holding tanks and greasing and lubricating of motors and pumps. Installs pumps, controllers and timing devices, and assists in the installation of Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition System (SCDAS) equipment and the maintenance of telemetering devices.Carries out preventive maintenance of the wastewater lift station according to schedules to ensure the provision of a dependable service, including the cleaning, repair, and adjustment of electrical control systems, mechanical equipment, and hydraulic and pump control valves.Develops and maintains an accurate equipment inventory, electrical and mechanical maintenance records reflecting actual corrective repairs and preventive maintenance performed.Responds on short notice to emergency call out from the SCDAS system.Performs confined space entry when needed for maintenance and repairs to systems.May perform the duties of a subdrain worker.
    Marginal Job Duties

    The following tasks are typically performed by individuals in this classification but are considered less than essential.
    Paints and applies preservative coatings as required to piping, metal and mechanical equipment parts to prevent corrosion.Uses chemicals to treat sewer lines and stations for grease and odor control.
    Miniumum Requirements:

    High school graduation or equivalent and four (4) years of experience in the maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment used in wastewater collection systems, preferably in storm water, urban runoff collection systems.
    License and Certificates:

    Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license. Must possess a Tanker endorsement within one year of hire date. Possession of a Water Distribution Operator Grade D3 certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health desirable.

    EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

    Applicants must receive a passing score on all examination components in order to be placed on the eligible list
    • Written Test ( weighted at 30% ): To measure knowledge of related mechanical maintenance trades. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of August 11, 2025)
    • Performance Test (weighted at 40%): To determine ability to identify the waste water collection system’s mechanical operation, equipment and related components (Tentatively scheduled for the week of August 18, 2025 and/or week of August 25, 2025)
    • Appraisal Interview (weighted at 30%): To evaluate training, experience and personal qualifications (Tentatively scheduled for the week of August 25, 2025 and/or week of September 1, 2025)
