Full-time position available with the Law Department, Collections Division located at 414 East 12th Street
Starting Salary: $24.77/hourly
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Handles all aspects of the water collections case within the water collections unit.
- Reviews and prepares files for suit by preparing the calculations necessary.
- Prepares petitions, affidavits, and special process server requests and puts together and sends out summons packets.
- Prepares 10 to 40 new cases for lawsuit generally each month.
- After the filing of the case, this position tracks the cases' progress, sets up payment arrangements within the parameters set by the client, and schedules turn-ons of water services after payment.
- Tracks all prejudgment payments and prepares dockets for court (approximately 3 times per week).
- Prepares all judgment, dismissals, and docket entries for court.
- Researches and prepares all alias summons requests, prepares continuance notices and sends them out, and assists with trial preparation as necessary.
- E-files summons returns with the court as necessary.
- After judgment is entered in a case, mails all required documents.
- Prepares garnishments and tracks service and payments.
- Handles walk-in and telephone customers.
- Accepts all payments made in office on water cases and tracks all payments received.
- Assists with other work for the Collections Unit as needed.
Qualifications
REQUIRES an accredited Associate's degree or certificate in paralegal studies (sometimes also called legal assistant or other similar terms); OR an accredited Bachelor's degree; OR high school graduation and 3 years of experience working in a law office performing administrative work.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
