    The Position

    Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.

    The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse 1 underfilling a Psychiatric Nurse 2 at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) located in Las Vegas. DWTC is an inpatient psychiatric hospital that provides mental health treatment for children ages 12 to 17. The work responsibilities include providing professional nursing care to severely emotionally disturbed (SED) children and adolescents. Planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care delivered to adolescent patients. Identifying patient mental and physical health care needed and to make comprehensive clinical evaluations. Providing input and recommendations regarding nursing care and services. To begin and carry out therapeutic, educational, social, and physical care activities. Managing medications as prescribed by attending psychiatrists or physicians and monitoring patients for medication side effects or allergic reactions. Monitoring the patients for their safety and the day-to-day work activities of direct care staff assigned to the unit. Document patient observations and the effectiveness of planned program activities.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and one year of professional nursing experience; OR one year of experience as a Registered Nurse I in Nevada State service caring for individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience. Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
